Looking
back at the year we thought it was going to be a daunting task to report on all the things
that happened. But the more we looked, the less we found.
As 2001 got underway, the Bug was upset that Clueless
wouldn't go to Hong King with her. They were squabbling at the time over producing a baby
that Mary Williams wanted more than anything else even though both she and Clueless have
not spoken with Heather Lynch in years. Had Clueless only known the Bug planned to 'work'
on a baby with him in Hong Kong, Clueless might have tagged along.
Instead, Clueless choose to stay behind and overnight found a new love. Her name was
Isabella 'Dizzy' Brana. Izzy wanted Clueless to help her concerning a problem with her
imprisoned husband. After checking with the DA, Clueless concluded Izzy was in danger and
moved her into his apartment.
Clueless' office manager tipped the Bug who was planning to return briefly to Genoa City.
When confronted by the Bug about Izzy, Clueless said she was only a client but the Bug
knew better because she saw them having sex. Eventually, the Bug told Clueless he was
hopeless and by year's end their relationship was officially over.
Clueless discovered that Izzy worked at one time at her husband's escort service unaware
that Izzy was teamed up with Michael Baldwin. Izzy told Baldwin she wanted out of the deal
because she had developed feelings for Clueless.
The relationship between Izzy and Clueless agonized for months. The two had sex one time
which was enough for her to get pregnant. However, when they broke up, Lauren Fenmore
stashed Izzy in a hotel room and for weeks neither Izzy nor Clueless saw each other.
Izzy decided to claim Michael Baldwin as the father of her baby and
blackmailed him for support which he began paying in cash. By the end of the year, Lauren
was telling Izzy to tell Clueless the truth but she refused. When Clueless and Izzy
finally ran into each other she told him she wasn't going to leave town because she had
been hired as a model by Jabot and she wanted nothing more to do with Clueless which he
seemed to accept. On Christmas Eve, Clueless and his mother ran into Izzy at a church of
all places where Izzy revealed her bloated belly.
The Malcolm and Olivia Winters marriage had ended and the butcher was
preaching that Malcolm wasn't such a good role model for her son. A court battle ensued
over visitation rights. Malcolm won and moved on with his life with Newman Enterprises'
newest attorney, Alex Perez.
Olivia turned again to Neil Winters and prepared to find a way to tell him she wanted his
body in her bed. She got her wish but it was a one-time deal. Neil didn't want her sorry
ass because he was in love with Alex. When Alex shunned Neil he turned to drinking and as
the year wound down his life was a shambles.
Another marriage on the rocks was that of Ryan and Tricia McNeil. Tricia
spent New Year's with the evil Matt Clark, AKA Carter Mills, and blamed Victoria Newman
for ruining her marriage. Carter drugged and raped her but Tricia was too stupid to say
anything.
Nick Newman gave Mills a job at his coffee shop unaware that Matt Clark
was putting a plan in motion seeking revenge for what Newman had done to him years
earlier. With the help of Larry 'Wartman' Warton, the plan would take most of the year to
unravel.
Clark saved Tricia from committing suicide when she tried jumping from the second floor of
his apartment building. From that point on, Clark promised Tricia he'd take care of her.
Tricia told Ryan their marriage was over and that she was leaving town. Unable to locate
his wife, Ryan entertained a suggestion from Victoria to hire a private detective to find
her. Jill Abbott convinced Keith Dennison to stay in town to help his daughter. After
catching Ryan and Victoria together, Keith agreed to help Ryan get Tricia professional
help.
Tricia returned home to find Keith and Ryan together. They grilled her about the identity
of her new boy friend but she ignored their questions and later slipped out the fire
escape.
Tricia later called her father and said she was out of town. Keith never thought to use
the *69 feature on the phone to determine where she was calling from. Meantime, Victoria
had convinced Megan Viscaradi, Tricia's sister, might know something so rather than call,
Victoria and Ryan went to Boston where they learned absolutely nothing. Back from the
trip, Victoria and Ryan had sex.
Stupid Sharon Newman entertained Mills with a Mexican dinner alone at the
ranch. He spiked her drink and she passed out. Mills was going to rape her but Nick came
home.
Mills packed some drugs in a bag of coffee, stashed them in the coffee shop and arranged
for Nick to sell the bag to drug dealer Jordan Senters.
Victoria Newman encouraged employee Phyllis Summers to spy on Jabot
Cosmetics via Jack Abbott. Phyllis was torn because she and Jack were having a
relationship Jack wanted to keep secret. Jack soon caught onto her game. When Ashley
suspected Jack was seeing Phyllis, she warned him to stay away from the enemy. Jack told
Phyllis is was over when he found a secret file in her possession. Phyllis told him that
Victoria had put her up to it but Jack never confronted Victoria. He did however, give
Phyllis information she could take to Victoria to make it appear she was spying.
By late April this story was still dragging. Jack told Phyllis they still have feelings
each other and wanted to restore her trust. She said okay with her provided he give up the
password to the Jabot computer system. Jack confessed his love and Phyllis agreed to give
him another chance.
Nina Webster was engaged to Tomas del Cerro but Tomas didn't want to
share the spotlight when he learned Nina's book would be made into a movie and his book,
would not. Tomas couldn't get over himself and these two parted ways. Nina moved to Los
Angeles with her son and hasn't been seen since.
Brad Carlton latched onto another Victor Newman throwaway when he hooked
up with Ashley Abbott and was thrilled when she asked him to adopt the baby she sired with
another man.
Diane Jenkins returned to the big city with her sights set on Victor
Newman. Michael Baldwin rushed her to the hospital where she gave birth a baby boy,
Christian Victor Newman.
Leanna Love heard about the birth of a new Newman heir and resorted to
blackmailing Jenkins even though Victor had hired a goon to keep her at bay. Love wanted
photos of the baby for her TV show.
Victor demanded a paternity test to prove or disprove Diane's claim that he was the father
of her baby. When the test showed he was not. Victor ordered Diane to take her baby and
get out of town.
Nikki Newman confessed to Victor that she feared Diane would take her
story to the tabloids but Victor was only concerned with learning who switched the sperm.
He hired Paul 'Clueless' Williams to find out more but the Clueless detective didn't learn
anything.
Diane confronted Nikki and accused her of switching the sperm. Nikki later confessed to
Victor that she did it and learned the man she had hired to switch the sperm had hired
someone else to do the job and that person was dead.
Hearing about the death, Nick hosted a memorial service at the coffee shop for Senters!
The Wartman called the DA with some destructive information about Nick.
When the cops found white powder residue, a glass and shipping label belonging to Newman
Enterprises in a Milwaukee apartment with Nick's fingerprints, Nick and Sharon were
stopped at the airport on their way out of town on vacation. Nick was arrested.
As damning evidence was presented in court, Nick yelled he was innocent. Bail was denied.
Vowing not to take a fall, the Wartman confronted Mills at the coffee shop. The two got
into a fight, the cops were called and the Wartman was arrested.
In adjoining cells, Nick told the Wartman he'd fight him. If the Wartman lost he'd have to
confess that he framed Nick. If the Wartman won, Nick would hire the best attorney for
him. When Tricia came to visit the Wartman with a message from Carter, Nick got a clue. He
told the Wartman that they should work out a deal.
Victor told Clueless that Tricia used Ryan's computer to plant evidence which helped frame
Nick. Sharon stopped by the jail to tell Nick Tricia had disappeared and later Matt told
Sharon he had information that could free Nick. She was to meet him alone at a remote
cabin to get the information.
The teens in this city were still being their goofy selves. Billy Abbott
still had feelings for Mackenzie Browning but couldn't bring himself to tell her. Mac
didn't want Billy to go to a Rave party for fear he'd get into trouble with drugs but
Billy was determined to go with Brittany Hodges. News of the illegal party was posted in
such places as the Newman coffee shop.
Mac went to the party with J.T. Hellstrom as Brittany demanded Billy prove his love to
her. J.T. wanted Mac to take some Ecstasy but she refused. Brittany purchased some Ecstasy
too and wanted Billy to give it a try. In the end nobody took the drug and thanked Mac for
being their guardian angel when dozens of party goers, including Jordan Senters, got sick.
On his death bed, Senters mentioned the name 'Nick' to a nurse. Fearful Senters would
spill the beans, Carter slipped into his hospital room and turned off the ventilator.
Senters died.
The cops investigating the death were told that Senters mentioned wanting to buy more
drugs from 'Nick" and assumed Senters was talking about Nick Newman.
Vowing he would free his son, Victor hired Clueless who sent out photos of Clark to
plastic surgeons. Low and behold, Clueless found the surgeon.
The cops questioned Brittany when they found out she had tossed some Ecstasy wrapped in a
credit card receipt into the corner of a dumpster. The tiny ball of rubbish was in the
dumpster two weeks before it was found.
By the end of April, Tricia had figured out that Carter had drugged and raped her.
Despondent, she turned on the gas oven and took another stab at suicide.
Victor and Nikki put the pieces together and determined that Matt and Carter are one in
the same. When they went to warn Sharon she was gone.
Ryan came to Tricia's rescue but got hit in the head with a baseball bat by Matt. With
Tricia listening at the door, Matt called Sharon and told her to meet him at the cabin.
Then he turned the gas back on and left Ryan alone to die.
Tricia followed Matt to the cabin where he had a video camera set up. Meantime, Victoria
and Clueless had found Ryan who said that despite being hit in the head he felt fit as a
fiddle.
Using a Humvee, Victor raced to the cabin where Sharon was in shock having realized that
Carter is really Matt. After a brief struggle, Matt fled out the back door when Victor
arrived. Matt jumped into a car being driven by Tricia while Victor rescued Sharon.
As they drove, Matt tried to implicate Tricia in his sick plan. She freaked and drove the
car off the road. At the hospital, Matt was near death when Nick walked in. Telling Nick
he had still won the game, Matt removed his ventilator tube putting it in Nick's hand just
as a guard walked in.
Nick was charged with murder. At the trial, the Wartman at first took the fifth but ended
by admitting her conspired with Matt and that the whole plan was to frame Nick. The
Wartman, already on parole, was placed on probation and Nick was set free. Later, Nikki
got the Wartman a job as a janitor at Jabot.
Herself a recent hire, Nikki discovered a miracle ingredient in Brazil for an anti-aging
cream she and Brad planned to market through Jabot.
Tricia meantime was also free and under the care of a head shrink. Ryan was confused when
Tricia told him that Matt is evil and is still alive and coming to get her.
Matt was alive but only in Tricia's mind. She picked up the revenge plot against the
Newmans. Victor knew she was a "dangerous woman" and moved her into his
penthouse suite to keep an eye on her. As this story droned on, Tricia, her divorce from
Ryan final, made a final move. She drugged Victor, made it look like he had raped her and
filed a police complaint. In jail on the charge, Victor was attacked by three thugs but
thanks to a trustee with instructions from the Wartman to protect the great man, was able
to fight them off.
While this was going on, Victoria and Ryan were about to get married although the six
month waiting period had three months to go. On the day of the wedding, Victor was trying
to get a bail hearing. Tired when the judge didn't move fast enough, Victor broke out a
window and escaped. He arrived at the church to find Victoria bound and gagged in a
closet. Although she had been hit over the head with a candlestick, Victoria claimed to be
fine.
Two shots rang out. Ryan died later. Tricia was taken to a padded cell and hasn't been
seen since. Victoria began seeing Ryan in her mind and became one of the walking wounded.
Sharon had her baby but it died. She blamed Nick who wanted the baby given up for adoption
if a DNA test proved it wasn't his. As the year wound down the test results had not been
made available and the young Newmans were too dumb to ask why it was taking so long. When
she finally got the results, Sharon broke down bawling on the shoulder of a total
stranger. "Want to talk about it?", new arrival Diego Guittierez asked.
Victor took
the entire family, sans Nikki, around the world in the Newman jet so they could study how
others celebrate Christmas.
Nikki was in
Colorado visiting her sister who had sustained injuries in a skiing accident and then flew
on to Italy where she told Diane she had been feeling guilty about switching the sperm.
Earlier, using a key that Jack had managed to obtain, Nikki and Jack broke into the sperm
lab. Jack was called away but Nikki stayed behind and discovered that Jack is the father
of Diane's baby. However, her proof wasn't conclusive.
The entire teen scene was the ultimate bore. Billy couldn't get Mac out
of his mind. Unaware that he was chatting online with Mac, he poured his heart out to the
'CleanQueen' and the two love birds got back together.
Raul Guittierez told Mac that Billy never, as she had been led to
believe, slept with Brittany and began having dizzy spells. Concerned about Raul's health,
Billy and Mac looked up his symptoms on the Internet. At about the same time, Raul was
being rushed to the hospital after hyperventilating at the Abbott pool. Dr. Olivia Winters
handled Raul's case and diagnosed his diabetes only after the teens told her what Raul
had.
When Raul's condition took a turn for the worse, he was rushed to surgery and slipped into
a brief coma. Realizing he has type one diabetes, Raul told Rianna Miner he's no longer
interested in her. She did after all, let J.T. have his way with her.
Brittany Hodges confessed to Mac that she destroyed the incriminating
videotape showing her having sex with Billy. When Mac said she has a copy of the tape,
Brittany fessed up. She didn't have sex with Billy after all. It was later learned that
Brittany is into shoplifting and Raul's brother, Diego, arrived.
Jill Abbott became intrigued with a young employee name Sean Bridges. They had
sex a lot and went on a camping trip where they got lost. It was only thanks to Sean's
thinking to bring along a GPS unit that they were able to get home.
Ashley Carlton worried her father may have Alzheimer's but it turned out
he was just suffering from old age.
John Abbott encouraged Gina Roma to open a second RoadKill Cafe. She talked about
it but it never happened.
It was June when Traci Connelly arrived in town with news that her
husband had cheated on her. She was surprised to learn Brad is not the biological father
of her adopted sister's baby. Brad suddenly developed the urge to bond with his daughter
but Colleen has become a little snot. She ran away and only returned thanks to a strange
woman who turned out to be Mac's mother, Amanda Hunnicutt.
Traci took Colleen Carlton back to New York where the kid began smoking
dope. When she was expelled from school, John Abbott took her back to Genoa City with him.
Mac turned into a little terrorist when she found out her mother was still in town. Mac
gave Amanda a ton of grief but mellowed a little when she learned Ralph was looking for
Amanda. Mac claims her step-father made advances toward her years ago and because Amanda
refused to do anything about it, she ran away.
Jack and Phyllis agreed to get married. Phyllis learned she cannot have children the
'natural' way and went ahead with in vitro fertilization. A week before the wedding, Nikki
found out that Jack is the father of Diane's baby although the proof is not positive. Any
plan Nikki might have had to tell Jack was postponed when Nikki was called away to
Colorado. Her sister, Casey Reed, had been injured in a skiing accident.
In a nutshell: As 2002 was about to get underway, the big questions were:
Will Neil Winters become so desperate for Alex he'd be willing to kill?
Would Jack find out he's the father of Diane's baby? Would it be before or after the
wedding and whenever he finds out, would Phyllis be willing to stand by her man?
Will Victoria ever get past Ryan's death?
Are Victor and Nikki destined to be
together - again?
Will Michael Baldwin put an end to Izzy's deception?
Will slaves
Miguel and Ether join the housekeepers union so they don't have to work any more holidays?
Will the
teens all go off to college now that their senior year is coming to another end?
