Blade Bladeson

See also: Ashley Abbott

One of the strangest characters ever to appear in Genoa City was a fashion photographer named Blade. It took months to learn the man's last name was Bladeson. Drucilla Winters discovered the shutterbug in 1992 when she and Bladeson were offered jobs at Jabot Cosmetics.

Winters as a model. Bladeson as the photographer. Winters had just turned town a lifetime opportunity of dancing the lead in Giselle because she wanted to be a model.

When Jabot big-wig Jill Abbott learned Dru Winters had been hired and had signed up to do a centerfold shoot with Bladeson for Sensuality magazine she blew a gasket and destroyed the film. Or so she thought.

While Bladeson had become infatuated with Jabot lab chief Ashley Abbott Newman, Neil Winters had taken an interest in Winters and eventually gave her an engagement ring. When the magazine hit the street Ms. Winters was so shocked to see the magazine had published the test shots of her she gave the ring back and left town.

By the end of the year Ashley had divorced Victor Newman and not much was heard about Bladeson until 1993 when he and Ashley were seeing each other more often. She suspected he was hiding something from her, he dispelled her concerns. Bladeson did admit he had changed his name in an effort to escape an unhappy past and an evil brother.

Victor meantime had gone missing and everyone thought he was dead. During this time Blade allowed Ashley to cry on his shoulder and she accepted his marriage proposal.

Blade and Ashley were married in 1994. They were planning to build a home of their own but something was eating at Blade. That something was a woman named MariJo Mason who had recently arrived in the city and was working at Jabot.

MariJo was Blade's former lover and with her working so close to his wife made Blade nervous. And for good reason. MariJo was still in love with him. But MariJo promised not to interfere and Blade warned her that he'd never forgive her for sleeping with his evil twin, Rick.

MariJo was the only living eye-witness to the murder. Rick mysteriously drown and MariJo knew the truth. Blade had refused Rick's pleas for help.

Blade also warned MariJo to stay away from the Abbotts but it was too late. She had already fallen for Jack Abbott and had asked him to marry her. Jack responded with an engagement ring.

One day MariJo forgot her wallet. Ashley poked her nose into it and discovered her real name was Marilyn. Ashley confronted the mystery woman and MariJo confessed she and Blade had been lovers.

It seemed that this triangle wasn't going to be a problem until Rick surfaced. MariJo freaked. Seeing them together, Ashley thought Blade was cheating on her and moved into the guest bedroom at her daddy's house where she and Blade were living.

Jack had a fit because MariJo had lied to him about Blade and used the opportunity to dump MariJo because he had discovered Luan Volein again.

MariJo wasn't about to let Jack go. When she learned Jack was going to the Caribbean she followed which just happened to be the destination Blade and Ashley had selected to try to mend their fences.

Ashley spotted MariJo with Blade and cried on Brad Carlton's shoulder who had just happened to tag along.

Rick was there too, knocked Blade out, tied him up in chains and assumed his identity.

When Blade and Ashley returned to Genoa City she thought he was a changed man. Suddenly her man was making love like never before. Ashley was so impressed with Blade's new virility she told MariJo who figured out what was going on. Rick admitted it to MariJo but wouldn't say where Blade was.

Rick went around easily duping everyone. One day he told Ashley he wanted her to have his baby. That's when MariJo realized Rick had fallen in love.

Back in the Caribbean, Blade was being held in a hut by a local native. Using ingenuity, Blade escaped and got back to Genoa City. How he accomplished this with no money and no credit cards was never understood.

Blade confronted Rick and Rick left town just like that. Ashley was bummed. Suddenly her man couldn't perform. But Rick couldn't stay away. He returned and pretending to be Blade went to be with Ashley at the RoadKill Cafe. When Blade found out he zipped home while MariJo called Rick just as he was about to bed Ashley.

MariJo told Rich there was a fire at the photo studio and he had to check it out of blow his cover. With Rick out of the house, Blade slipped into Ashley's bedroom.

These role reversals would go on for weeks until one night the real Blade was killed when the car he was driving was hit by a train. Everyone wondered - since the Abbott's went outside to view the scene - how a train track had managed to get so close to an affluent neighborhood.

Rick told Ashley who he was but she threw him out and went off to Paris to be alone.

Like so many others, Rick just drifted off never to be seen again.
