Archives 1990-2002 - Winters Family See also: Neil Winters Dru Winters Lilly Belle Johnson and Walter Barber had two children. Drucilla
Barber Winters Neil Winters (parents unknown) married Dru but they got divorced when Neil wanted Dru to stay home barefoot and pregnant. They had a child (Lily Amanda Winters) whose paternity is uncertain. Dru left town to pursue a modeling career in Paris but recently returned to pick up where she left off with Neil. Neil still has feelings for Olivia but they remain in the closet. Nathan "Kong" Hastings (Deceased) married Olivia and they had one child. (Nathan "Nate" Oliver Hastings Jr.) Nathan cheated on Olivia with Keesha Monroe. When Olivia found out she kicked him to the curb. In retaliation, Nathan abducted little Nate for a few days but in the end decided to give it all up. On his way home to Olivia, Nathan was hit by a slow moving car and died instantly. Olivia
was told to have herself and little Nate checked for AIDS every six months but she only
did this once. Malcolm Winters married Olivia but they are now divorced. Mamie Johnson is Lillie Belle's sister. She met Trent Jordan after Jill Abbott gave her a million dollars to leave town but returned recently minus Jordon. King Kong! Anthony was under investigation
by the D.A.'s office, but they couldn't get anything that would stick as evidence. That
is, until Assistant D.A. Tyrone Jackson (whose brother, Elwood, AKA Jazz, worked for
Detective Clueless and his partner, Andy Richards), decided to go undercover in Anthony's
organization. One night, as Amy was heading home, she was followed by some sleazy types (The Clueless Detective Agency was in a really lousy neighborhood, before it moved into Newman Towers), and she was saved by a stranger who came out of nowhere - Kong. To reward Kong for saving her
from the creeps, Amy took him out to dinner and learned his name was really Nathan and
discovered he couldn't read when he didn't know what was on the menu. Hastings ended up kidnapping his own child but eventually decided to give up the battle. As he was returning little Nate to his mother, the kid ran across the street. In pursuit, Nathan ran into the street, was hit by a car, and died. Another perspective It was 1990 when Drucilla Barber blew into Genoa City and wasted no time picking the pocket of private detective, Nathan Hastings. Since Hastings worked for the Paul Williams Detective & Alarm Company at the time, Hastings' wallet was empty. Having run away from home seven years earlier and run up a long police record, Barber looked up her long-lost Aunt Mamie Johnson who was the Abbott maid at the time. Johnson convinced John Abbott to let Barber stay in a spare room off the kitchen. A few days later, Barber was caught shoplifting at Fenmore's Department Store. Interested in the little thief, Hastings discovered that Barber couldn't read or write and got the court to release her into his custody. Now living at his apartment, Hastings taught Barber how to read and write but she wasn't happy being enclosed in such a tiny cubicle. But, she decided to tough it out when she found herself attracted to the man. At the same time, Barber's sister, Olivia, just happened to be in Genoa City for a medical internship and was romantically involved with Hastings. Dru knew the two planned to get married but that didn't stop her from trying to get into Hastings' pants. She tried everything but nothing seemed to work. Then, Dru realized she had the ability to dance. Yeah, she would dance her way into Hastings' heart. Convinced, Dru got Mamie to give her money for dance lessons and John Abbott gave her a part-time job in the Jabot mailroom. Two flies got stuck in the ointment when Dru and Olivia's parents arrived in town. Gosh, it was like a family reunion! Dru put a damper on things when she told her parents she didn't want them in her life. Saddened, the elder Barbers left town. When 1991 rolled around, Dru was still trying to snag Hastings. When she told her sister about the hunk, Olivia wanted to meet him. Dru was frantic when she just happened to bump into Neil Winters who agreed to help Dru play a game. As it turned out, Neil fell in love with Olivia. Knowing by now what Dru was up to, Olivia moved her wedding date up. Disaster struck when the sisters father took ill. After the scare, Olivia and Nathan were married. Soon after, Neil and Dru fell in love and Dru became interested in a modeling career. The following year, Dru, seeing fame and fortune, signed up with photographer Vinne Russo. Fortunately, Paul Williams and Nathan Hastings exposed Russo's pornography business before Dru got in too deep. It was 1992 when Dru Winters met Fashion photographer Blade Bladeson, and turned down "the opportunity of a lifetime" dancing the lead in 'Giselle' to become a sanctioned model. Dru and Blade both jumped on job offers at Jabot Cosmetics. Blade was attracted to Ashley Abbott as much as he was the job, while Jill Abbott wasn't sure that Dru was right for Jabot. Dru also signed a centerfold deal with 'Sensuality' magazine. When Jill, on hand to oversee Blade's shoot for the magazine, discovered Dru was the subject, she destroyed the film. Neil Winters, unaware of Dru's transgression, gave Dru an engagement ring. Dru's joy was short-lived, however, when her centerfold hit the newsstands. The magazine had published her test shots! Devastated, Dru returned the ring and left town. Meanwhile, Olivia's happiness over her pregnancy was cut short when word came down that she was suffering from a severe medical condition. Vowing to see the pregnancy through because her doctors said it might he her only chance to conceive, she kept the news to herself. Eventually Mamie Johnson found out, as did Nathan Hastings. Neil and Nathan found Dru and brought her back home before she got into too much trouble again with the wrong crowd. The stress Dru was causing Olivia became too much and Olivia was taken to the hospital. Rushing to Olivia's side, their mother, Lillie Belle, made it clear that her eldest was still the favored daughter. The doctors induced labor in an effort to save Olivia's baby. After the crisis, Olivia and Nathan named him Nate. Dru, hoping to turn her life in a more positive direction, resumed her ballet lessons. By the end of the year, Olivia convinced Neil to give Dru a second chance. In 1993, Dru and Neil tied the knot at the Chancellor estate. Later, Dru learned the truth regarding the animosity she always felt from her mother. Seems daddy Walter Barber had come home drunk one night and forced himself (a scary thought if you had ever seen Lillie) on Lillie Belle when she had told him she didn't want another child. Despite her mother's explanation for hurting Dru, Olivia ordered Lillie out their lives. Later, Olivia changed her mind and brought a despondent Lillie back to Genoa City where she could take care of her. Soon, Lillie's manipulations drove a wedge between Olivia and Nathan, and Dru was once again hurt when her mother rebuffed Dru and Neil's invitation to stay with them instead of Olivia and Nathan. Dru had wanted her sister and brother-in-law to be given the time and space they needed to repair the damage Lillie had caused to their marriage, but Dru also wanted to bond with her mother. As 1994 rolled around, Dru knew from firsthand experience the pain caused by estrangements within a family, Dru encouraged Neil to accept his half brother Malcolm, whom he hadn't seen in years. Neil's first impression was that Malcolm wanted to freeload, but when Malcolm landed a job at Blade's photo studio, their relationship took a new turn. While Neil was away on a business trip,. Dru, under the weather, overmedicated, and somewhat delirious made love to Malcolm by mistake. Afterwards, Neil expressed his desire to start a family, and Dru would soon find herself expecting. But who was the father? When Malcolm admitted to Dru that it was he who had responded to Dru's advances and made love to her that night, Dru considered terminating her pregnancy. But at the same time, Dru learned that she suffered from a medical condition that might prevent her from conceiving again. Then, after seeing the joy of Neil got from playing with little Nate, Dru knew she couldn't deprive him of fatherhood. So she put it out of her mind, and with Malcolm's concurrence, the pair decided to keep their rendezvous a secret forever. Meanwhile, Olivia tried to set Malcolm up with Stephanie, a medical student, but little came of the relationship. Malcolm continued to hang out with his brother and his sister-in-law. In 1995, Nathan found himself deeply involved in a messy affair with Keesha Monroe. Olivia became suspicious when he came home with lipstick on his collar, and rejected her advances in the bedroom. Neil encountered his brother-in-law in a restaurant having an intimate chat with this woman too a told Nathan to shape up, Nathan said that at least Keesha had time for him, whereas his workaholic wife spent too many hours at the hospital. Nathan did try to dump Keesha but he couldn't give her up or she wouldn't let him go. When Nathan would take Olivia out on a special! date, Keesha would pout and threaten to tell Olivia. Keesha, using the name Nola, even checked out Olivia in her hospital office, posing as a new patient. She couldn't believe that Nathan would have such an attractive wife! Dru, who recently became a new mother, couldn't believe that Nathan would cheat on her sister, and she chewed him out, threatening to tell Olivia if he didn't put an end to the affair. As if things weren't complicated enough, Malcolm met a forlorn Keesha at Gina's. He became so enamored with her that his enthusiasm actually had an effect on Keesha which drove Nathan into a fit of jealousy. Olivia wanted to give Nathan another baby, and so the couple, after being sexually void, began trying to conceive. Meantime, Keesha was falling for Malcolm and refusing to take phone calls from her ex-boyfriend, Stan Jackson. When Keesha told Malcolm the truth about her affair with Nathan, Malcolm was outraged and dumped her. When Keesha eventually tried to get in touch with Stan, she was learned he had died of AIDS! Shattered, she realized she might be infected, and that if she were, she may have infected Nathan, who had reconciled with Olivia. In 1996, Olivia told Dru that Nathan was out of town on business so Dru decided to do a little checking. Paul Williams, Nathan's boss, told her he hadn't given Nathan any out of town assignment. Dru told Olivia that Nathan was cheating on her with Keesha Monroe! Olivia turned on Dru, demanding to know how long it had been going on and why she'd been kept in the dark. When Nathan confessed, Olivia went on a rampage. She threw him out and ordered him to stay away from her and little Nate. Olivia took a pregnancy test and an AIDS test. She tested negative. Nathan said he would be tested, too, and later reported that he was negative. Then he remembered that he and Nate had a minor accident in the playground in which both of them had gotten cut. Olivia lost it! She prepared little Nate to be tested telling him he had to be a "brave little man" when the doctor would stick him with a needle. Little Nate kept asking for his daddy, wondering where he was and when he was coming home. Nathan made attempts to see his boy, but Olivia kept putting roadblocks in the way. Meanwhile, Malcolm was walking a tightrope between Keesha and Olivia. He befriended Keesha, saying he knew about her condition, but wanted her to know he was on hand to help her through the rough days ahead. And he tried to distract Olivia by amusing her, taking her dancing, and entertaining little Nate. When Nate's first test was negative, Olivia was relieved but Nathan was making a fuss about his legal rights. One day, Nathan picked the lock on Olivia's apartment door and waited for her and Nate to come home. Olivia freaked out. Nathan had long run out of money, so he asked Paul for his old job back. Paul checked with Olivia, who agreed that as long as he didn't cause any trouble, Nathan could go back to work. Malcolm, meanwhile, was becoming more concerned over Keesha's bad health. She had developed pneumonia and death was imminent. Malcolm felt Keesha craved the nourishment of love for her spirit and her soul, so he asked her to marry him. Nathan was becoming more desperate. He kidnapped Nate. Beaten, drained, and broke, he decided to return Nate to his mother. As they approached the apartment building, Nathan stopped to buy flowers. As Nathan's back was turned, Nate ran across the street. Nathan darted into the street to look for him, and was hit by a slow moving car. Olivia found Nate asleep at her door and took him to the hospital to see his dad. After good-byes between father and son were said, Olivia thanked Nathan for returning Nate to her. Nathan asked her for forgiveness, then closed his eyes and died. As the year came to an end, Dru signed a modeling contract with Kellum and Rogers against Neil's wishes. Keesha Monroe died. In 1997, Neil was upset because Dru continued to accept modeling jobs that took her away from home for long periods. Neil found himself turning to Olivia for companionship and understanding. Finally, unable to deal with his wife's absences any longer, Neil phoned Sid Garber, Dru's agent, and made it appear that Dru was in agreement with his desire for her to scale down her assignments. When Dru learned what Neil had told Sid she chewed Neil out for interfering in her career. Neil and Dru continued to disagree over Dru's commitment to her career, and in the wake of Sid's canceling one of Dru's contracts, Dru pleaded with Neil to reconsider. Later, when Dru was asked on a TV talk show to name the person she would give the most credit to for her successful modeling career, Dru replied that the credit would have to go to her understanding and supportive husband. Touched, Neil romanced Dru and told her he wanted them to have another baby! Although Dru told Neil she was ready to have a another baby she secretly continued to take birth control pills. In the meantime Malcolm and Olivia were getting closer. Little Nate was whining for Malcolm to become his daddy, and when Malcolm proposed to Olivia on bended knee, Nate was pleased. However, Neil's happiness was short-lived. After months of trying to conceive, he accidentally discovered birth control pills in Dru's purse. Furious, Neil moved out. Dru and Neil remained estranged as 1998 began. After months of soul-searching. Neil started to forgive Dru and both decided to give their marriage a second chance. It didn't work. They got divorced and Dru moved to Paris. During the interim, Neil fell for Victoria Newman but that relationship didn't work either. Malcolm
Winters gets a job! Moments later, Dru Winters appeared, discussed her husband's brother and then Hastings left without taking a shower. Dru called Malcolm, invited him to visit Neil and sure enough, Malcolm appeared moments later in Neil's office. "What do you do for a living?" Neil asked. "I hang," Malcolm replied. Pressed for more, Malcolm revealed he did graduate from high school and flashed a class ring as proof. Later, Malcolm was in the park looking at old newspaper clippings he keeps in his wallet about his brother. As he fumbled the papers, Malcolm admired his ring. At that moment, a gang appeared seemingly out of nowhere and attacked him. Winters was taken to the Center 4 Disease where he was treated by Dr. Olivia Winters. As the doctor patched him up, Malcolm tried hitting on her but she had no interest. A few days later Malcolm returned to have the stitches removed and amazingly, there was no scar! As time crept along, Drucilla convinced photographer Blade Bladeson to hire Malcolm as an assistant. Before he was killed by a train, Bladeson amended his will leaving the photo studio to Winters, a man he hardly knew. And the letter found in the trash? It was written by Malcolm to Neil outlining his plan to move to Genoa City and become famous like his big brother. Monkey see,
Monkey do The story picks up in May of 1987. Neil Winters was acting like a real caveman. For months Winters had been spewing about the importance of family but thought nothing when he, married to Dru Winters at the time, swapped spit with his wife's sister. Dr. Olivia Winters told Mr. Winters to check his feelings for her but secretly wanted him in her bed. Winters thought his marital problems were at an end when his wife returned from Tahiti and agreed not to take any more out of town photo shoots. Neil didn't want any woman of his working. In general, his theory was that women belong at home, in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. Neil's happiness was short lived when he learned Dru had "betrayed" him by accepting an assignment in Paris. The couple squabbled about this for days. When the dust settled, Dru realized Neil would be hell to live with if she took the job. She called her agent, Sid 'the hipster' Garber, to say she had changed her mind. Garber fully understood because only moments ago, Neil had called him to say he felt his woman's place was home with their baby. After being pestered to no end, Sid was about to let Dru out of her contract when Dru called to say she would do anything to keep working including a promise to make Neil stop calling Sid. Sid changed his mind but because of the lateness, Dru would have to leave for Paris within a matter of hours. Dru was ready. She had passports for herself and her baby and even managed to get the required up-to-date immunizations. When Neil returned home he thought Dru was all dressed up for a family outing but quickly discovered what was really going on. He went ballistic. "How dare you?" he bellowed. Dru and the baby flew off to Paris and returned to Genoa City a few days later. Neil tried to be cool but he couldn't resist whining to Olivia that he had been betrayed and didn't know how long he could tolerate his wife doing with her career what she wanted. Neil was so freaked he felt ending his marriage was the only way out. As it so happened, WYBO, a local TV station, arranged an interview with Dru. The crew arrived at the Winter's apartment and the reporter began acting more like a psychologist than an interviewer. "Tell me about that" and "how do you feel about that?" the reporter asked when Dru began discussing her past life as an uneducated street thief. Lurking in the hallway, Neil heard Dru praise him for making all things possible but he didn't give a damn. He was being betrayed and he didn't like it. When the interview aired the following day, Jack Abbott and nearly the entire city stopped what they were doing to watch. Neil claimed to be proud of his woman's interview but nothing had changed. Again, Neil turned to Olivia who could only squint her eyes and wish that Neil was her man. In the end, Dru stood her ground and made a decision to divorce. While he claimed to love his daughter, Neil has only seen the child once in all these years. Side note: Sid Garber was one of those men pushing fifty who are unable or unwilling to face up to the reality that they are no longer teenagers. To stay cool and hip, Garber wore his gray hair in a ponytail and was too lazy to shave his scraggy beard or lose the extra 100 pounds he carried on his belly. Daddy & Son Tired of waiting around for a judge to grant visitation rights to the little boy he
calls 'son', photographer Malcolm Winters may be on the verge of taking matters into his
own hands. 8 years of Winters Saturday, 01.05.02 September 27,
2002 We have seen
the soul of the Winters clan. It is empty. Split apart and
reunited again the partners choose sides only to find there is no place for them to go.
And when they can't go they can't grow. Being unable to grow has resulted in mysterious
medical afflictions but these ploys have been used so often they no longer elicit
sympathy. |
