Did you blow a gasket when Adam Wilson Newman told Phyllis Newman to save a place for him on the unemployment line? It was a joke, wasn't it? First off, Phyllis hasn't worked thirteen consecutive weeks to qualify for benefits. Second, if either one of them goes on UI it'll be a Genoa City first. Nobody, but nobody in this city has ever collected UI. All those weeks Neil Winters was living at the bottom of a bottle he never worried about how the rent or the bills would get paid. Only one person has ever been concerned about paying a medical bill and that was Bobby Marsino. Rich people don't worry about such things because they either don't need jobs or know that by waiting a week or so someone will offer them high-paying management positions, such that Cane Ashby fell into last week.

That Adam said such a thing to Phyllis had to have been a joke because he must know, blind or not, that she's married to the boss' son. Of what need does she have for money when Nick Newman must be bringing home more than they'll ever be able to spend. It's not like they have rent to pay on the tack room daddy Victor allows them to live in. Have these two ever worried about making ends meet?

And what's Adam's problem? He's living rent-free at what for now is Ashley Abbott's place. Before that, ever so briefly, he was living with now wife Sharon Newman, who it's said was renting the Carlton home from Abby Carlton Newman, but how she paid rent when she doesn't work isn't clear. The third or fourth time Phyllis has quit NE will a memo go out that she's not be rehired - ever again! Will Victor tell her, "We keep bringing you back and you keep leaving. You've leave work unfinished and, wait a minute, what exactly were you doing before you left? Look, it's a pain in the ass for the payroll department, the boys down in security never know if they're supposed to let you in or not, and it doesn't look good for other employees that you get to decide if you work for me or not so no more working for me especially after you said you wish I'd stayed in Belgium. You got that?"

Not that Phyllis will have trouble finding another job if she needs one. Within an hour of quitting she was offered a job at Jabot Cosmetics, a company scrambling to repair its image following the Chancellor Industries takeover. Nothing screams damage control more than hiring the wife of a man who's father is out to bring new Jabot owner Tucker McCall down.
