Oh, dear readers, I'm SO excited to have a gala to report upon this week! A gala, a soiree, a lavish affair - looked forward to all year 'round by residents of Genoa City as THE premiere event of the social season! I'm rewinding my tape of today's episode right now, gleefully anticipating sumptuous formal gowns and elegant tuxedos... I'll bet Michael goes with a shawl collar on his, with an ivory silk scarf around his neck, and maybe Adam will wear a white dinner jacket - I've always liked that look - and oh! The ladies will look splendid in their formal gowns! And I'm sure the dinner will be exquisite, with beautiful place settings and fresh flower arrangements and - just a second, my tape is ready. Let me just sit back here and press "play"; I want you to watch this WITH me. Hee hee, I'm so looking forward to...

Ohhhhhh.

I guess Lily hasn't changed for the event yet. She's in a white strappy short dress with a gold bungee cord around her neck. Cane is wearing a black suit with a black shirt - no tie. I guess he must have just come home for work. Well, I'm sure they'll both...

Huh.

I guess that really IS what they're both wearing. Well. That's going to be a little embarrassing - I mean, it's a GALA, you know - the equivalent of prom for adults! Maybe nobody will notice how under-dressed they are. Gosh, you'd think that being a model, she'd...

Oh. Oh, jeez.

Now we're at the Athletic Supporter. Nikki is descending the stairs in a black just-below knee-length dress with a deeply scooped V-neck - is that a funeral dress?! I know that the promos for SODDEN IMPACT have led us to believe there'll be some tragedy occurring tomorrow, but why would she be dressed for a funer - wait, that's what she's WEARING?! To the gala? For reals? And her hair is up in a French twist with swoopy little pin curls at the crown, just like how she wore it for her Mexican wedding. And David's wearing an ordinary suit and tie.

Well.

This is certainly disabusing my notion of formal wear..

Oooh, at the Ponderosa, Sabrina isn't exactly wearing a ball gown but at least she appears to be making an effort in a long magenta gown with a plunging V-neck. I'm sure once her hair is done up, it'll look pretty formal in a contemporary way and...

That IS her hair? It's done?

The front is pulled up off her face, but the back is left down and sort of wavy-messy. God, that's weird; her dress calls for a sleek chignon if you ask me. Victor's not wearing a tux? Wow. I like his pale silver-gray tie, but... he wears that all the time, it's nothing special.

I'm confused.

Oh! Here's Gloria. This should be good. She's wearing animal print as usual; from what I can see as she sits at the bar, the top has slightly off-the shoulder sleeves and simple lines, and she's decked out in a wide collar-style necklace, very sparkly. I wonder if the skirt is long and full, or long and straight with a slit up to her thigh, or...

...or, knee length and five notches down on the formality scale.

What the crap is going on around here? I thought this was a gala! The swankiest event of the year! Gloria would wear a dress like THAT to go retrieve the morning paper from her doorstep or to scoop Fisher's poop.
