The Newsbrief Archives By Amanda, and Phyllis Brooks Speed link to: Wednesday Thursday For week of 09.03.07 No show on Monday and Friday due to coverage of U.S. Open tennis. Show #8720 09.04.07 Out at the Newman Ponderosa, everyone is trying to convince Phyllis to come out of the room with Summer. She finally agrees and they all head for the hospital where Phyllis is pissed that so many "healthy" people in line first are getting treated before the more important and sickly Newman baby. Meanwhile, Baldwin is trying to delay Phyllis' arrival at the prison and actually says that the warden is waiting for her. If she doesn't show up on time it will add more time to her sentence too. Later, Baldwin says he's trying to reach another judge who can overrule Judge Chong. When that doesn't work, he calls the Sheriff's Department threatening to go to the press. How will it look if they hauled away Phyllis while her baby's fate is unknown? While Phyllis continues fussing and referring to Summer as "my baby" with Nick standing right there, when Baldwin says he's run out of options, Phyllis says she won't go leave no matter what. On cue the cops arrive, arrest her, and she's hauled out kicking and screaming. Later, we see her being told by a guard that she's not at hotel and that she will be strip-searched. Phyllis asks the guard, "Are you a mother?" like the guard gives a rip. The remainder of the day surrounds Mr. Kim Chee and the usual suspects. As Amber keeps looking at that $100 bill, Carson gives out vibes that he wants to get into her pants. Amber says she's not that kind of a girl, and Carson makes a remark about dumb blondes to which Amber says, "You're dumb if you think I'm a real blonde. They eventually hatch a deal where Carson will swipe from the AC Motel maid, the key-card to Chee's room. Carson will distract Chee by having him go to the Jitter Joint to meet with a reporter. At Jack's office, the senator is on the phone freaking out when Sharon comes in. They talk briefly about Phyllis of whom Sharon says will most likely be let out of prison early for good behavior. Sharon slips out of sight when Katherine blows in to read Jack the riot act. She will deny everything should there be any legal ramifications to what he's done. Jack tells Katherine, "You're more senile than I thought," as they get into a shouting match with Jack saying that if he goes down, she'll go down with him. Cane arrives in time to break them up and takes granny away. "What I've done is going to hurt a lot of people," Jack finally says, telling Sharon what a mess he's in since she's heard everything. Sharon says she doesn't care. She'll stand by her man. He did, in Sharon's mind, save Jabot. "You're amazing," Jack says, adding, "Disgrace, thy name is Jack Abbott." Later, Cane runs into Jill and tells her he doesn't understand why she hates Katherine so much. Jill says, she just does and Katherine "deserves what she gets." Elsewhere, David tells Nikki he wants her to support Jack. Nikki says, no way. "He's a self-serving, pompous jackass," she sputters as David says he'll arrange for her to meet with a reporter to give her side of the story. Still later, David reports he told some reporter almost everything on the condition that it be off the record. Oh boy, this guy is dumb. Nikki knows it, but she's got a thing for him except when David suggests she make her separation from Victor permanent, she says why bother; they always get back together. Flash to Victor on the phone with Neil and Karen Taylor telling Victor about finding out that Jack cancelled state contracts will Granville Global. Victor finds this very interesting as earlier he, Victor, had called in a favor from the governor. Victor did not say specifically what it was. Looking for Jack, Victor finds Sharon in Jack's office. When she asks if she can relay a message, Victors snorts, "This doesn't concern you." Thinking he's meeting with a reporter, Chee leaves when he doesn't see anyone waiting for him. Meanwhile, Jack has purchased "ancestral" land Chee's family lives on. Just like that, over the phone. Jack summons Chee to his motel room where, we don't see them meeting, but Jack has told him if he goes public his family will be evicted. Later Jack meets with Victor at the Athletic Support and is told the great man has evidence of "misconduct" he intends to use. Jack says forget it, Chee won't be talking. "We'll see about that," Victor grunts as he leaves and David arrives to be told that the matter is in hand. David immediately runs to tell Nikki that now they must go into "stealth" mode and wait for things to calm down. To make a long story short with the Amber and Carson trying to get into Chee's room, Amber eventually goes to his motel room and let's herself in with the key-card. Chee is there, only, gasp! He's laying on the floor just as Jill arrives too! Is he dead? Show #8721 09.05.07 - Director: Dean Lamont Things start out at the God Have Mercy Medical Center where baby Summer is not doing so well. Nick wants Baldwin to "make this happen" pertaining to a call to the prison so that he can speak with Phyllis. "She's not allowed phone calls," Baldwin reminds him as a holding Summer, with his handy laptop close at hand, Daniel's phone rings. It's Jack checking on how things are going and moments later arrives in the flesh dressed in a blue gown like most everyone else. Speaking to Summer, giving the kid a pep talk, Jack later quips, "Newman women; you just can't stop 'em." Victoria arrives to see how Nick is holding up and whether he's told Ma and Pa Newman. Nick says he knows Phyllis hurt her too, but asks that she not go off on Phyllis right now. As for his mother, he can't say the same. With Summer later, Nick feeds and assures her that all will be well. As for reaching Phyllis, Jack says he'd call the warden but the warden might not appreciate it. Yikes! Here comes Lauren with Fen-Fen. Poor boy has been sneezing. Could Doc. Logan take a look? Who wants to wait with the other patients ahead of her? Not Lauren. Logan looks and says there's nothing wrong with Fen lots of liquids can't fix. And then the good news. Summer's fever broke! "She's on the mend," Logan says as everyone breathes a sigh of relief. At the prison, Phyllis is in intake room #3 with Baxter the welcome wagon. Phyllis begs to use the phone only to be told she's a "first timer" and shouldn't be asking for special treatment. She'll get her one call later.
When it
comes time to draw blood, Phyllis says, "I'm 100% drug-free." Baxter said no before informing Phyllis that she'll have to be enrolled in some courses. Phyllis sneers about always wanting to take a class in carpentry at which point Baxter says not carpentry, "Cognitive Intervention: Understanding the Criminal Mind." And since Phyllis lipped off, Baxter is adding "Anger Management" to the list. Continuing to beg, Baxter finally cuts Phyllis a break. "Okay, just this once." Phyllis calls Nick collect only to get his voicemail. Calling again, she reaches Baldwin who tells her the baby is gonna be fine. Summer does, after all, have Newman "genes." When Phyllis hangs up in waddles Warden McQueen. He's overweight and looks like a walrus - seriously - mustache and all. Calling the new fish by her first name, McQueen tells Phyllis they're looking for a roommate for her. Phyllis begs again to make a call. McQueen knows she already had one and tells her no. "Don't try to pull anything," McQueen snarls, reminding Phyllis that her former social status doesn't carry any weight in prison. Seen later wearing a tan jumpsuit, Phyllis is eyeballing the payphone. She calls Nick just long enough to say she's glad he picked up, but before Nick can say much the line goes dead as McQueen pulled the plug. At the Athletic Supporter Motel in room #640, Jill is checking Mr. Chee for a heartbeat as Amber frantically calls 911. Jill tries CPR begging Chee, "Don't leave me" and moments later paramedics arrive. It didn't take long to determine that Chee is dead. Amber called Baldwin and went absolutely bonkers talking like she was on speed. Baldwin said he'd be right over and for Amber not to talk with anyone without him at her side. Cane arrives to comfort Jill just as Chee's body is being covered. Michael is there in a flash too telling Amber, "You were found with a corpse" and that she could be facing felony charges. Cane eyeballs Amber as Katherine calls. He tells Katherine to stay away, but she shows up to, what Jill said, "gloat." When Katherine suggests Chee faked his own death, Jill asks, "Does that look fake to you?" From there on out Katherine is all peaches and cream and Jill actually takes her hand as she has a good cry. With the crime scene pretty much tainted, who should arrive next? Detective Maggie Sullivan and acting D.A., Heather Stevens! They throw a few softball questions at Amber who ends up volunteering she thinks Chee stole the stolen money. Carson joins the fun, and looking around gives Amber the stink eye. When Baldwin gets Amber away from the heat, Carson asks whether she took the money because, in case you missed it, the money in Chee's room is gone. Amber accuses Carson of taking the money and he says that would be good for her because she'd be off the legal hook. On the other hand, if he took the money they'd both make a healthy profit. At any rate, Carson thanks Amber for keeping his name out of it. Maggie pulled Jill aside for a few questions. Did Chee have any medical issues? When was the last time Jill saw him? All Jill knows for sure is that Amber was standing over the body and wonders why the cops aren't asking the burning questions like, why Amber was in the room at all and why Chee died just before he was about to go on national television. No surprise, Maggie didn't ask why Chee going on TV might have have led to his death. Then so typical, Jill started blaming herself. Why? Why? Why did he have to die? Meantime Heather is asking Carson if Chee knew about the money. Carson is evasive. As for Chee's cause of death, they won't know until the Medical Examiner makes that determination. Finally, Chee's body is rolled out the door. Picking up a pillow her man had laid his weary head on, Jill gave it whiff and a hug. Show #8722 09.06.07 - Director: Andrew Lee The day starts at the Athletic Club where lots of people are milling about and as Jack will say, "mourning." Cane is comforting Jill as Katherine asks how could such a thing have happened to a man so young as Mr. Chee. Jill wonders why Katherine is being so sweet all of a sudden and Katherine says everything she's ever done has been because she loves Jill, like disowning her at birth. Jill wants to inform Mr. Chee's parents, but worries that they can't speak English. Cane says not a problem, he'll hire an interpreter to which Jill says she can't imagine getting such devastating news from an interpreter. Maggie slithers over to say she's in touch with the coroner's office, but at this point knows nothing about how Chee died. Across the aisle as it were, Nikki and David learn of the death from Gina and that's about all Gina has to say as Nikki worries again that David told that reporter way too much. David says again there's nothing to worry about; the reporter knows everything was off the record. Nikki goes to give her condolences to Jill as David calls the reporter to remind him nothing of what he was told is to appear in print. Jill is suspicious of Nikki's kindness, and as Katherine and Nikki start to chat a reporter comes by to ask if they've been told the cause of death. Katherine tells the reporter to buzz off and Maggie pins him down about what he knew about what Chee had planned to say at the interview he never gave. The reporter says he can't talk about it; confidentially and all that. Nikki goes back to tell David she recalls that he has a copy of the interview she planned to give on his computer and wants David to make it go away. Victor wanders by and Nikki tells him that Chee is dead. Victor seems surprised, but not too interested, as he tells Nikki it worked out pretty good for her. At the Abbott home, Jack is telling Sharon that Summer is doing better when a reporter calls with the news that Chee is dead. Sharon is full of questions. Did Chee have a heart condition? He was so young. Jack says later there's a CSI team in Chee's room which Sharon can't understand since the death was an accident - wasn't it? Colleen comes down carrying a box as she's moving out, presumably in with the professor. When she learns of the death, Colleen says, "that sucks", and then offers to stay should Jack and Sharon need her. They don't. Sharon grills Jack: Did he put pressure on Chee not to give the press conference? Jack says no, and decides that they should go give Jill their condolences. "What are you doing here?" Jill seethes when she sees Jack, but then chills out a bit when Jack says that Chee was "an amazing business man." Then Jill rips Jack again, accusing him of using the death as a photo op. Jack denies it. He says they came by to see what they can do to help and Cane tells him, "Get out!" When Jack bumps into Victor and the great man calls him "my friend", Jack says the my friend routine is getting old. The reporter interrupts to ask how well Victor knew the deceased and Victor says he didn't know him at all. When the reporter asks Jack what he knew about Chee, Jack snarls that it's inappropriate to be asking questions at a place where people are mourning. Maggie slithers over to Jill again this time to say Chee was strangled. Jill starts to think it odd that a little girl like Amber could crush the larynx of such a big man as Chee was. Katherine says, well, it could have been an "accident". Like the man could have suffocated himself. Meantime, with Sharon at his side, Jack listens as Victor says he knows more than Jack thinks and wonders why Jack didn't tell authorities that he was with Chee just before he died. Jack flicks it off as unimportant, but Victor thinks otherwise and says maybe he should tell the cops. For a few good laughs, at the God Have Mercy Medical Center Kevin is pacing back and forth in Jana's room. The slit on her skull from the surgery showing, Jana asks if she's not doing better? Kevin says yeah, she's not so freaky. A doctor pops in to say they got 99% of the thing growing in her head and as far as he's concerned, she's "normal." The news sends Kevin into space cowboy mode. He tells Jana that they're gonna buy a couple of "hogs" and "get out of Dodge" on a drive cross-country. Colleen arrives to tell Kevin, "Your boss died". At first he's confused. Oh, that boss. His Jabot boss. Gosh, he better put something about it on the Jabot website! Seriously, he said this. After Colleen talks to Jana about her and Kevin becoming a kind of Thelma and Louise, she applies makeup to Jana as Kevin sputters Jana is "the old you" and he's higher than a kite. So high in fact they'll extend the trip to Europe and Asia! He'll find someone to run the coffee shop and can easily get a leave of absence from Jabot 'cause, well he's never there anyway. Then Jana rains on the parade. "I'm never getting out of here! [...] The monster could grow again. I can't be the love of your life - ever!" That said, Jana took off leaving Kevin alone with Colleen who said, "She's playing us." Kevin doesn't believe it. Jana freaked out is all; she'll be fine. More archives below |
