The Newsbrief Archives By Phyllis Brooks Speed link to: Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday For week of 09.17.07 Show #8728 - 09.17.07 - Director: Jill Ackles After the fire Jill is seen telling a reporter that the door to the steam room was jammed and she's lucky to be alive thanks to her ex-daughter-in-law. She also thanks Amber for saving her. "You could have left me in there." Amber suggests that now Jill can tell Cane, "I'm not a complete loser." At the mausoleum later, Jill, with a new 'do that makes her look like, well, something that barely survived a fire, tells Cane that Amber saved her, but she's not all that appreciative. Cane has his doubts about Amber saying she'll find a way to "exploit" saving Jill. Jill rambles on a bit about not being able to stop thinking about Ji Min and Cane acts like he's tired of hearing it. Besides, he's got a divorce party to get too. With Cane gone, Katherine expresses concern that Jill may have inhaled too much smoke. Jill says no; there was hardly any smoke at all. At the Indigo, where there's a photo of Lily when she was a kid, Colleen, wearing a sheer dress with silver top making her looking like a baby doll, is giving the professor lessons on how to blow up balloons as preparation for the party continues. The professor, tickling Colleen's belly, wants to go home for some sex when Devon and his date, Roxanne walk in. Devon remarks that not only is Roxanne pretty, "She's smart too." Flash to the Newman breakroom where Neil is telling Victoria that he's read her proposal on "Marine Farming". He approves the plan so long as Devon can be part of it and Victoria says the project will help save the environment. Karen pops and Neil invites her to Lily's party. Back at Indigo, the place is jumping. Karen and Neil arrive followed by Paul, Maggie and Heather who says she hasn't been out of the office since she started working at the D.A.'s office. Earlier at the Jitter Joint, Paul gave J.T. a lecture on getting involved with high maintenance women such that Victoria is. Paul is surprised she's still living with him. "I thought she would have moved on by now," Paul says, reminding J.T. that Victoria comes from money, and J.T. doesn't. Then Paul gets to what's really on his mind. Victoria's baby. What if it isn't J.T.'s? "I will love it as if it were my own," J.T. says before Paul hits him with his best shot. "Being in love is like having a mental illness." How will J.T. like living with Brad Carlton's baby? J.T says he'll handle it and changes the subject to his going undercover at the Clear Springs project. Paul is taken aback. J.T.'s cover will be blown the moment any of Cane's people spot him. At his pad, Kevin is trying to reach Jana, but she can't come to the phone. Amber and Daniel are there too talking about the party. "My friends will be there talking trash about me!" Daniel grouses, as Kevin tries calling again and this time gets through long enough to say he hasn't seen Jana in a couple days and wants to know how she's feeling. Following the short conversation Kevin takes off for the party leaving Daniel and Amber to lay on the floor in front of the TV eating chips when she starts obsessing about Cane being at the party celebrating his freedom from her. Jana wants to go to the party, but Daniel says no, it's a bad idea. He'd rather she stay with him; they can watch Sex and the City. Nope, she's going. Daniel can stay if he wants. Back at the party Lily thinks she's drinking cranberry juice except it's booze. She can't tell the difference? Soon Lily has a flashback of signing her divorce papers. Kevin arrives and whines to Colleen that Jana has said he lives in the real world while she'll always live "in there." Opening her presents, Lily discovers Karen has given her kickboxing lessons. J.T. and Victoria arrive. Seeing them, Paul asks J.T., "What are you doing here?" Seems J.T. was supposed to be on a stakeout. J.T. says he was, but had better things to do. All hell breaks out as Paul says there are plenty of guys out there who would love to have J.T.'s job. J.T. fires back that he's tired of being Paul's "errand boy" and generally, working for Paul sucks. "You're fired! Got it!" Paul bellows, and as they're making a scene, Cane comes over to break it up. Meanwhile, Kevin has gone to the hospital to tell Jana he'll never abandon her; she's not a psycho; she won't be locked up for the rest of her life; they are a team; a "Bonny and Clyde"; a "Starsky and Hutch"! Kevin goes on and on. He wants Jana tumor and all. He wants to kiss her, but she pushes him away. Back at the party, Cane says there's a problem at a factory in Brazil, and he's sorry, but he must be going - now. When he tells Lily he didn't bring her a gift, she says she'll settle for a kiss. At just the moment they're kissing, Daniel and Amber walk in and get an eyeful. Show #8729 - 09.18.07 - Director: Sally McDonald The divorce party still in progress, it's pretty much all we see today as a feeling tipsy Lily tells Colleen that she kissed Cane and can't believe it because Cane isn't her "type." So what is her type? "Someone who never married Amber." Lily wants Colleen to promise not to tell anyone about the kiss as she's almost sure nobody saw. Wrong. Colleen informs her that Daniel and Amber are at the party and they saw it all. Kevin returns to whine to Colleen that Jana won't see him and that their relationship is a "train wreck." As Kevin goes off to see Daniel, Cane returns to ask Lily if she's upset about what happened. Happened? Upset? Not Lily. Meanwhile Neil is telling Karen that he'd like to profit from the institution of divorce since half of all marriages end in divorce. He talks of "custom made piñatas" and "Beattlejuice" as they look at the stars. Then suddenly Neil says he has to go back to the office to lockup! Karen says that's okay and gives him a kiss. Before leaving Neil stops to chat with Lily and quips, "College has done wonderful things for your vocabulary." He knows too that she's in pain and giving her a hug smells booze on her breath which leads into a reminder that he's still in AA and if Lily ever needs to talk... Sick to her stomach, Lily later tells Colleen that she's so confused and Cane eventually returns to say he can treat her with a concoction consisting of some Pepto. Before Cane started playing the piano, Heather invited him to go to a movie with her and for him to bring along a friend if he wants. All Heather wants is to meet someone outside the law profession; she needs friends. When Colleen spotted Daniel and Amber she told them to leave. Declaring the Indigo to be a "public place", they refused as Colleen said she'd sic Neil on them which she never did. With Daniel, Kevin whines about Jana; she's his "kryptonite." As for Heather, the boys say they aren't worried about being prosecuted. To prove it, Kevin asks Heather to dance with him. She declined. The Indigo must have grown since we last saw it, because it seems nobody can find anybody including Amber who's looking for Cane as Kevin goes through the available music noting the CD by Johnny Case, Folsom Prison Blues. Amber found Cane at the piano. Not that it's any of Amber's business, Cane told her that Lily is just another girl and then told Amber again, "We're finished. I don't want you." Earlier, finding Karen and Devon's date Roxanne alone, when Karen said she was in Australia once, Cane said he got his degree from the "University of the Outback." Heather and the Professor has a brief conversation too during which Gerbil said that the student that died was a good one. A call came in for Heather just then about the plea bargain meeting tomorrow and her saying, "Don't be fooled by the blonde." Over at Newman Enterprises, before Roxanne returned to the party alone, Devon was on the phone to Brazil with an operator who apparently was speaking Portuguese which Devon couldn't. Asking if she spoke the lingo, Roxanne said she could speak French as Devon switched to some broken Spanish. Finally getting Mr. Cordozo on the phone, Devon, speaking English, told the ethanol project manager to call him anytime there's a problem. The problem this time had to do with a money transfer which Devon solved. Showing up later, Devon grilled Neil about Karen. Neil swore Karen isn't a "date", but Devon said if she was, it's "cool" with him and gave permission for Neil to "go after" her. Then Neil started talking about "types" of women and told of when he and Dru were in France they went hiking in the mountains. The air was so thin he had trouble breathing, but Dru didn't! Dru was, according to Neil, so athletic. He was so impressed to see her in the gym kickboxing! Alas, no amount of wishing will bring Dru back. When Devon sputters that Karen seems a lot like Dru, Neil asks, "How'd you get so smart?" Devon's reply? "I learned from the best." Devon and Neil went back to the party. Surprised to see him, it was Neil who kissed Karen this time behind closed doors. Still talking about how not afraid they are of Heather, Daniel calls Cane "a loser" for not appreciating Amber as the conversation turns to their plea bargain meeting in the morning. Amber asks, "What if the money is found before the meeting?" as the boys laugh and Kevin keeps yapping "Brah", Hawaiian slang for brother. Along comes Heather to remind them of the meeting and to say remains of the money has been found; burned in the fire. "We got lucky!" Amber squealed, once Heather was gone. Show #8730 - 09.19.07 - Director: Dean LaMont The day starts at the Baldwin apartment with Kevin, Daniel, Amber, Gloria and Nick meeting with Baldwin to discuss what it means now that the stolen money has been found burned to a crisp except for some serial numbers which prove it's the money. Daniel thinks this means they're all off the hook, but Baldwin says all it means is that they won't have to pay the money back. The fact remains they stole the money and thus they must pay for that crime. "I pulled a woman out of a burning building!" Amber protests, as if to say her good deed should have resulted in all charges against them dropped. Why Nick is there isn't clear except that he did promise Phyllis he'd take care of the kid. Speak of the Devil, Phyllis calls to ask how Summer is doing. Nick says the baby is doing great. So great there is no doubt in Nick's mind that Summer is, "definitely your daughter." Phyllis goes on to say that the first thing she wants to do when she gets out of prison is, "Eat pizza and play video games." She asks about Daniel and tells Nick she can have visitors - except him. When the call ends, Michael goes on to say that the Feds are trying to build a case against Treasury Agency Bonercheck who is apparently in custody. Now, if Cane was to testify against Bonercheck, he could help Kevin, et al, get immunity. Baldwin eventually calls Cane who goes to meet with the group and learns that while Bonercheck wasn't caught with the money, he can be charged with kidnapping. Baldwin says Cane doesn't have a criminal past and thus the Feds wouldn't hesitate to make a deal so long as they get Bonercheck. While Cane thinks about it, Kevin asks if there's a plan B. Baldwin says yes, a risky one. They could sue the government for what it did to Kevin, Amber and Daniel. When Heather walks in, Nick hits her up for a favor; fix things at the prison so that he can see Phyllis. When Heather balks, Nick warns her that his family "is close" with her boss. Heather wasn't intimidated. She told Nick to forget it which brought an outburst from Daniel. "How does a servant of the people have no compassion?" As Daniel leaves to go visit Phyllis, Nick makes a call to the Mayor's office in Kenosha City where the prison is. Demanding to speak with the mayor in person, when Nick is put off he takes his case a level higher - to The Secretary of the Department of Corrections! Nick's plan is to have the prison warden told not to mess with him. Later, Baldwin ran into Heather at the club and said he doesn't like that she's working so hard to get his clients into court. When she rejects his demand that she make a deal, Baldwin tells her to call the U.S. Attorney's Office. The Feds want Bonercheck; if Heather knows what's good for her, she'll go along to get along. And deal Heather did. Arriving at his apartment, Baldwin delivered the good news. A deal has been made whereas Kevin, Daniel and Amber will get two years probation and 90 hours community service! To celebrate, they break out the champagne and caviar. And then it comes out that when he was electronically spying on Jabot, Kevin got on tape Ji Min talking about two companies, presumably Jabot and the House of Kim, becoming stronger then ever. Kevin and Gloria want to make the tape public, but Baldwin screams it was obtained illegally- a felony! Are they crazy? They don't want any more legal problems. When Baldwin leaves though, Kevin and Gloria talk about how they can make the tape public. At the prison, Daniel gives Phyllis the good news and tells her, "Summer will be walking soon" and they joke about how Phyllis is spending her time. Back in the big city of Genoa, at the mausoleum, Jill is reading a story in the paper surmising that Ji Min was thief as the money was found in his room so he must have stolen it. Jill can't understand why a rich man would steal a lousy $700,000. Cane was there before he went to see Baldwin and told Jill that if Ji Min was alive he'd kill him for what he's done to Jill. Then Jill gets to thinking that Ji Min lied to her about everything and wonders if he lied about loving her too. Katherine tells her she made a mistake is all, and Jill concludes she didn't know Ji Min at all. After meeting with Amber to say that they are "even" now that that he's agreed to testify against Bonercheck, Cane returned to tell Jill that Amber couldn't have killed Ji Min. Now, Jill wants to know exactly how Ji Min died. While all this was going on, Jack was telling Sharon that there's a poll out showing a 50-50 split between those who think the tape made public last week is fake and those who don't. Calling Ben, Jack told him to tell the press it's a "smear campaign" and when Sharon said he should come clean, Jack said no way. There is "no hard proof" that he owned Jabot and that he'll "survive" this scandal so long as he has Sharon's support. Sharon says he does, but she doesn't want to be in a position of defending him in public. Jack says she won't have to say a word. Jack also said his integrity is important now because he's meeting with a representative of the State Board of Education to work something out where pregnant girls will be able to stay in school until they get their degrees. Sharon and Jack went to the club where they ran into Gloria who said she'd just come from Jabot which will be expanding her perfume line and that she'd been bad-mouthing him. Jack said he's not worried; nobody will believe the "ranting of a social-climbing black widow." Following that encounter, a female reporter asked Sharon what she thinks of her husband. Sharon said she stands by her man. Show #8731 - 09.20.07 - Director: Andrew Lee Sorry folks, it wasn't the Baldwin apartment yesterday after all; it was Kevin's pad. Today it's the Abbott home where Jack and Sharon are in what Jack calls "a blue funk" the result of the mess he's in. As Jack prepares to leave, Sharon, in need of getting out of house, calls Brad to ask if he'll meet her at the club for coffee. Since Brad is already there, he agrees. As Jack leaves the house he tells Sharon that he loves her, but doesn't kiss her. At the club Brad tells Sharon that he saw her on TV playing "the loyal wife." Sharon says she wasn't playing; Jack turned Jabot around and if Brad would simply acknowledge that it would help their relationship. Brad goes on to say he and Sharon have "a connection", that "we will eventually be together", that he's not talking about "playing house" and whenever Sharon needs to talk she is to come to him. "You and I are the real couple," he says. Jack went to the prison to see Phyllis. He brought along her "favorite macaroons", but the guards confiscated them. They both agree that their lives are "miserable" and she understands Jack did what he did to save Jabot. Jack rambles on about getting a law passed by the governor, that Sharon wants him to come clean, and how he thought Victor was a friend until "space aliens took over his brain." Alas, Jack knows Victor will never change and that's partly why he won't come clean. Phyllis says that's okay because going public would probably have the opposite effect of what he wants. When Jack gets back home, Sharon is still out and all that time Noah was home alone! Sharon returns, Jack says he loves her, and they go to the bed with their clothes on at which point Jack says he loves Sharon. Adding, "What I did wasn't a evil deed," Jack changes his mind. Tomorrow he'll tell whoever will listen the same thing. Noting that when he said he wasn't worthy of Sharon it was the booze talking, their clothes come off and the hot sex comes on. In Victor's office, Neil listens as Victor mumbles about the tape not being "a load of crap." His gut tells him that. Neil isn't so sure. "Why is Jack so confident?" Neil asks, before suggesting that more evidence may be needed to nail Jack. "Mark my words. Jack Abbott will be found guilty," Victor concludes. Later, Victor is on the phone with a senator saying that Jack is a threat to the legislative institution. During another call to what sounds like an investigator, Victor says, "Where there's smoke, there's fire" and asks that Jack be hurt, but not too bad. Taking Zapato, Victor shows up later at the prison with the dog! Phyllis is amazed; how did Victor get Zapato pass the the guards? "It helps to know people in high places," he snorts before telling Phyllis about a work release program he can get her into if she agrees to talk to investigators about what she knows about Jack. Better yet, Victor says he might get her sentenced commuted. For now, Phyllis won't sell Jack out. Back in the big city at Kevin's pad, Gloria is euphoric. Her little Kevin "ain't" going to prison and she's gonna sleep good tonight. Kevin says he's so happy mommy is happy he might run around naked with her there. Claiming to have had an epiphany, Gloria says she's going to get Jack without Kevin's help and reads from a newspaper article calling for the senator's impeachment. Kevin mentions destroying the DVD he has on Jack, but Gloria says no; they need to keep it for "insurance". At the computer, Gloria is voting in an on-line poll against Jack and she's voting often. Each vote requires Gloria sign in with a new username and asking Kevin to make up a new name asks that he come up with something more credible than "butter biscuit". All worked up now, Gloria takes off on Jack. Calling him a hypocrite, she says he has no concept of what family is and picking up the phone calls a tabloid to say she used to be the senator's stepmother hoping the rag will want to interview her. When they ask for proof, Gloria hangs up and goes off with Kevin to the club where they see Brad and Sharon. Still in a snit, Gloria has a flashback of when Jack told her she'd never be a part of the Abbott family again. Back in real time, she mutters maybe what's on the DVD is a good idea. Back home, Gloria calls Victor to say that Jack should answer for his crime and hints she has proof if Victor is interested. Oh, he's interested - and agrees to meet with Gloria. Show #8732 - 09.21.07 - Director: Dean LaMont It's a new day. In bed, Jack tells Sharon he's thinking about how he'll tell the world about Jabot. "I'm lucky to be your husband," he coos, then goes on to say that the world will say, "The truth set Jack Abbott free," but truth be told, "You set me free," he tells Sharon. Down at the breakfast table, Noah is whining that he's not doing well in spelling at school. He wants to take the dog (Fisher) with him today because those who love should be together. Jack suggests instead, Noah make a video of himself and Fisher. There's a knock at the door. It's Nick come to tell Sharon that he can't see Phyllis, and with Summer at Newman Day Care, he was hoping Sharon could go with him to the prison so that Noah can see Phyllis. At the prison later, the warden won't let Nick see Phyllis. When Nick objects, the warden says the Newman name doesn't mean anything, so Nick can save his breath. Noah gripes, "It isn't fair," and Nick tells the warden, "You scared a 10-year-old. Nick explains to Noah why he can't see Phyllis and the boy goes off with Sharon to see her. Noah tells Phyllis he hates the warden and wants to punch him. Meanwhile, Nick is telling the warden about being in a plane crash, losing his memory and establishing a college fund for the dead pilot and flight crew's children. The warden isn't moved by the sob story, and when Nick says he fell in love with his wife all over again, and therefore if the warden has any compassion he'll let him see Phyllis just this once, Sharon overhears. With the warden gone, Nick tells Sharon that he loves Phyllis, but when he looks at Sharon he sees what they used to be. At that moment a guard comes in with Phyllis; she's got three minutes. Phyllis uses the time to tell Nick that Victor wanted her to rat Jack out. Nick appears to be upset, but back home later he tells Victor that if he can get Phyllis out of prison, "Do it now!" Over at the coffee shop, Jack and Sharon listen as Noah says he fears something bad will happen to Phyllis. "We're a family," Jack says, adding that Phyllis could be out sooner than they think. Still, Noah is worried. What if something was to happen to Jack and he went to prison? "You have four parents who love you," Jack assured the boy, noting there will always be a least two parents for Noah to depend on. At Kevin's apartment, Gloria notes that newspaper headlines about Jack have been replaced with, "Wisconsin Cheese Fest Expects Big Crowd." Kevin quips, "To be replaced by cheddar." Gloria reminds Kevin that they've got the proof needed to nail Jack. "Help me bring that son-of-a-bitch down," she seethes, adding that Jack needs to be paid back for what he's done to them. Kevin agrees to let mother give the DVD to Victor so long as she keeps his name out of it just as Baldwin walks in to ask if they've gone completely mad. The ink hasn't dried on Kevin's plea bargain and already they're flirting with another felony. When Kevin asks if Baldwin doesn't want Jack to pay as bad as he and Gloria do, a shouting match ensues. Making a call to Victor, Gloria arranges a meeting with him later. In Nick's office earlier, to say that Yom Kippur starts at sundown, Brad left to go see Victor and Nick got a call from Phyllis who said she's working in the laundry now and teaching a workshop on how to build a website! In Victor's office, Brad said he owes the Newmans so much and wants to atone for his sins. Victor says he won't be convinced until Brad shows him that he's changed. Jack arrives later to say he had nothing to do with canceling those State contracts, the one with Granville Global in particular. Victor lets Jack know he doesn't believe him and Jack sneers, "You should spend more time at the gym; your punches have lost their oomph." Victor warns too that Jack should be very careful. Jack took off and called the press to say he'll have a big statement later. At the club, Cane was meeting with Victor when Lily strolled by. She went to the bar and rehashed with Colleen that she's not worthy of Cane. Colleen thinks she is, and told her to go after him. Finally, Cane notices Lily and she sits at his table boring him to tears. Then it was back to Colleen to say she's not sure about getting involved with another man, and eventually back again when Cane returned with two tickets to an event in Milwaukee. That's when Lily told Cane she's only nineteen. When Brad showed up, he and Colleen went around and around. She accused him of trying to run her life, and he said that's all in the past. Now, Brad wants to make amends. He wants her to go with him to the synagogue tonight because Rebecca is in Los Angeles visiting friends. At first, Colleen wasn't receptive; she said no matter what, Brad will never change. But later she changed her mind about going with him to the synagogue. Back at Victor's office, Gloria is there with the DVD. She gives to him with the caveat that her sons don't know about the DVD. Taking the disc, Victor snorts, "Have a nice day." Back home, Kevin tells Baldwin that he'd read online about Jack's press conference. Baldwin notices that's not all Kevin has been reading. Why would Kevin need a hard drive scrubber - unless? - yes, Kevin admits he gave the DVD to Gloria and she gave it to Victor. Upset, Baldwin pours a drink on Kevin's computer. Flash to Victor in his office. He's watching the DVD! More archives below |
