Leslie Brook's concert
career was going brilliantly, and she secretly dreamed of a life with Brad. But Lorie was
determined to make sure this didn't happen. Leslie wrote Brad a letter begging him to join
her in Detroit for her big concert appearance, Lorie made sure Brad never received the
love letter.
On the opening night, Leslie called Brad to find out why he hadn't come to see her, and
instead Lorie answered his phone. Not letting Leslie know that Brad was only helping her
with a book she was writing, Lorie led Leslie to believe that Brad wanted to spend the
night with her instead. Lorie then seduced Brad herself, and proposed marriage. Believing
Leslie no longer needed him, Brad accepted. Leslie began showing signs of depression, and
had a mental breakdown. She ended up in New York wandering around Central Park. All
Leslie's identification was stolen, so she was admitted to a New York hospital as a Jane
Doe.
Pierre's sister, Marrianne Roulland, became jealous of Sally and guessed
that she was carrying another man's child. She then confronted Pierre with her suspicions,
and he admitted that she guessed the truth. Sally was finding much happiness with Pierre.
He was kind and gentle with the love she always needed. But an intruder hid himself in the
restaurant until after it closed, and trying to rob the Roullands, killed Pierre. Sally
was determined to sell the restaurant and move away, but Snapper persuaded her to wait, at
least until the baby was born. At first not telling her why, he finally confessed it was
because her unborn child might have been damaged in her suicide attempt.
Now that Sally needed his help, Snapper, with his wife's consent, began to spend a great
deal of time with her. He had already been told of her past suicide attempt, and feared
that she would try again if left alone too much. After Sally gave birth to little Charles
Pierre. Chris was led to believe that the baby was premature. Concerned because the child
was ill, Chris called the hospital to find out how he was, and learned that the baby had
been full term. Confused, and then putting the pieces together, Chris realized the child
must have been fathered by Snapper. Snapper confessed to Chris that he was the boy's
father. Stunned, Chris fell and had a miscarriage. To find herself once again, she
separated from Snapper and took a job as a social worker in Legal Aid for brother in law
Greg Foster.
Meanwhile, Sally began a new life for herself and her baby in Chicago. After a time, Chris
gained new independence, and she and Snapper resumed their marriage.
Up until now, Greg was in love with only one woman, Chris, his sister in law. Now, was in
love with a client, beautiful Gwen Sherman.
There was nothing about Gwen to suggest that she was, in fact, a prostitute.
When Greg found out through his brother, he was terribly upset and called off the planned
wedding. A kindhearted man, Greg decided to help her. Gwen vowed she would, and Greg began
to feel that there was hope for an eventual marriage, but when Gwen's violent pimps
threatened to kill Greg for interfering, she was forced into accepting clients again.
Hurt, Greg called her a tramp and she tried to kill herself. When Snapper told Greg that
she was being coerced into being a call girl, Greg convinced Gwen to press charges against
the pimps, and for the first time Gwen was beginning to feel the joys of integrity. She
turned toward God and joined a convent.
Bill Foster, the husband who had deserted his wife Liz, and their three
children nine years before, was living in another town. Snapper had finally gotten Liz to
agree to have Bill declared legally dead, so that she might be free to remarry. Then Liz
met a man, Sam Powers, and he and Liz became engaged. Meanwhile, Bill,
knowing that he was dying of cancer, wrote to his family and came to Genoa City. Since
Bill was dying, everyone except Snapper forgave him for the heartbreak he had caused the
Fosters, and Liz agreed to have him move into the house. Bill, a completely changed man,
encouraged Liz to marry Sam Powers for her own good, but in the end Liz decided to send
Sam away. In her mind, she was still a married woman. Secretly Jill and Greg hoped their
parents would rediscover their love for each other.
Kay thought that a marriage between her son Brock and Jill Foster would be just wonderful.
Phillip wanted to divorce his wife and marry Jill, but Jill refused until Kay could be
helped over her alcoholism and was self sufficient. Kay became suspicious of Jill and
Phillip when she accidentally spotted them kissing. Her feelings towards Jill completely
reversed, and Kay had an elaborate bugging system installed in the house so that she could
overhear their discussions. She even followed Phillip and Jill to a small cabin the one
night they consummated their love.
Jill was still against marrying Phillip, but discovered she was pregnant. Kay then offered
Brock a part of her fortune to seduce Jill and marry her. Brock agreed, because he
believed it was the only way to end the agony for Jill and his mother. To give herself a
way out of a messy situation, Jill accepted Brock's proposal. Brock insisted on performing
the ceremony himself, and they lived in a cabin in the woods, without having sex. Kay was
horrified when Jill and Brock said they were married. But she was also relieved that she
might have a second chance with Phillip.
Katherine joined Alcoholics Anonymous and was trying to give her life some meaning once
