Remember When - 1983

Nikki Reed resumed stripping at The Bayou, which was hurting for business. Her husband, Kevin was outraged, but Nikki continued stripping. Fed up with the tension in her marriage, Nikki turned to Rick Daros. While Kevin and Nikki were in the midst of divorce proceedings, Kevin befriended Julia. Kevin's mom, Alison, arranged to have Nikki's striptease act photographed and spliced into a porn film, hoping that it would cause Nikki to lose custody of Victoria at the divorce hearing.

Jill scheme to steal her husband John's money included bugging Jack's office. When Jack was in the midst of an intimate encounter with Diana, Jill phoned his pregnant wife, Patti, and suggested that she pay a surprise visit to her husband at work. Patti saw Jack and Diana making love. She was so distraught that she rushed out of the office and collapsed. Patti was rushed to the hospital, where she miscarried. Jack's dirty deeds continued when he tried to replace Ashley's boyfriend, Brian, at Jabot with Eric Garrison. Later, Ashley and Jack were stunned to discover that the mystery woman who was trying to buy Jabot was their mother, Dina. After Patti recovered from her miscarriage, Jack resumed his affair with Diana. When Patti overheard Jack making plans to have a vasectomy, she showed up at his office with a gun and threatened to shoot herself. Instead, Patti got caught up in the heat of the moment and shot Jack. At the hospital, doctors removed two bullets from Jack's chest. But a third bullet paralyzed him. Meanwhile, Patti wiped the incident from her mind. A subsequent surgery enabled Jack to walk again. During Jack's absence from Jabot, John appointed Ashley president. She was so good that, when Jack returned to work, John kept Ashley as president.

Consumed with stress because of her faltering marriage, Patti began seeing a therapist. At the therapist's suggestion, Jack agreed to help reenact the stress that triggered Patti's blackout. When the reenactment takes place, Patti suddenly recalled that she had shot Jack and her reasons for doing so. Soon after, Patti divorced Jack and left town.

The Abbotts were thrown into turmoil when John suffered a heart attack. However, he recovered. In an effort to keep John interested in their marriage, Jill pretended that she was pregnant. Soon after, she and Jack ended up spending the night at a remote cabin and making love during a snowstorm. A stranger stood outside the cabin's window, snapping photographs of the couple.

Paul Williams worked to clear his father, Carl, of criminal charges when Carl was set up by the mob, who resented the police detective's efforts to smash their syndicate. Paul's involvement with Cindy, a reformed prostitute, also nearly destroyed his family. Paul was forced into hiding by the mob. To lure Paul out, they kidnapped his mom, Mary. Fortunately, Paul and Carl rescued Mary and the mob was put behind bars--with the exception of Tony DiSalvo. The charges against Carl were dropped. Nikki agreed to marry DiSalvo, the mobster who had possession of the steamy flick that Alison had created, when he promised to destroy the tape. Paul and Andy rescued Nikki before the wedding ceremony could take place. DiSalvo was so angry that he tried to shoot Paul, but Cindy shielded Paul's body and took the bullet instead. Before DiSalvo could fire another shot, Jazz, a friend of Paul's, shot and killed the mobster.

Nikki's problems continued when Alison kidnapped Victoria and fled the country. Rick tracked Alison down in England and told her to return Victoria. He revealed that Kevin wasn't the baby's father. Victor was. After Rick returned Victoria to Nikki, their relationship picked up steam. Victor watched as their romance continued to grow, but he resisted telling Nikki that he knew he was Victoria's real father.

Eve and her friend Max concocted a diabolical plot to poison Victor. Julia overheard a smidgen of their plan on the phone and warned Victor that he was in danger. Julia suspected that Eve was involved in the poisoning, and eventually she proved it by having the poison that Eve administered to Victor analyzed. An antidote was found and Victor regained his health. He realized that Eve had tried to poison him so that her son, whom she believed Victor had fathered, could inherit half of his wealth. To punish Eve, Victor pretended to be dead. When Julia confided to Eve that she thought Victor was murdered, and that she wanted to exhume his body for an autopsy, Eve sent Max to the graveyard to dig up the corpse. At the cemetery, Max was so shocked to see Victor alive that he fell against a pitchfork and died. Eve was carted off to the loony bin.

Ashley broke off her romance with Brian and began seeing Eric Garrison, who was also involved with Dina. Eventually, Eric ended his affair with Dina and proposed marriage to Ashley. Dina offered to help with the wedding plans. When Eric's possessions arrived from Paris, Dina made sure that Ashley saw a portrait of her mother that Eric had painted. On the back was an inscription, 'All my love, Eric.' Ashley was mortified to discover that Dina and Eric were lovers.

Ashley's sister, Traci, struggled to lose weight so that she could win Danny's heart. But Lauren Fenmore, who was also interested in Danny, did her best to undermine Traci's confidence. As a last resort, Traci turned to diet pills. While Traci was under the influence of the pills, she had a car accident and was rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, Lauren was jealous of the concern that Danny showed the seriously injured Traci. At the hospital, Traci went into convulsions.

The photos
Jill Foster Abbott was trying to squeeze a hefty divorce settlement out of John Abbott but didn't know that the old man knew about the photographs Katherine Chancellor had obtained. The mausoleum queen had ordered her slave to destroy the seductive photos of Jill with Abbott's son, Jack, but Ether Valentine had never gotten around to it. Instead, Valentine put together an anonymous letter to Chancellor using words clipped out of a newspaper indicating she had the photos and would return them for 100-thousand dollars. As expected, lamebrain Valentine couldn't pull off the blackmail and wound up giving Chancellor the photos for free.

The photos go back to 1983 when photographer Lindsey Wells took pictures of Mrs. Abbott with stepson Jack while they were stranded inside a bungalow during a blizzard. Wells later offered to sell the negatives to Mrs. Abbott for 150-thousand dollars. When Jack found out, he tricked Wells into marrying him, got the negatives and told Wells the marriage was a hoax. Jack didn't know that Wells had a duplicate set of negatives she sold to Katherine who wanted to get even with Jill for destroying her marriage to Phillip Chancellor.

In 1985 Katherine ordered Valentine to have some of the photos cut into a ten piece puzzle. She began sending one piece of the puzzle each day to John Abbott. The final piece revealing Jack and Jill's face was altered before it reached its destination. Katherine made a deal with Dina Mergeron, John Abbott's former wife, to remove Jack's face from all the negatives. When John saw the final piece he tossed it without realizing it was Jill in the photo.

When Katherine found out she showed John all the photos of Jill in compromising positions. John was so upset he had a stroke! After recovering, John demanded to know who the man in the photos was. Jill refused to say so John gave her 30-days to get out of the house and planned to file for divorce.

By 1986 Jill had become so desperate to save her marriage she told John that Jack was the man in the photos. John refused to believe her but as he walked by Jack's bedroom he saw Jack naked. As John gazed at Jack's nude body it all became clear. Jack was the man.

John kicked Jack out of the family, Jill got a nice divorce settlement but not before getting shot and Jack was convicted of the shooting. It was quite a year.

Lauren Slutmore?
For as long as anyone can remember, Lauren Fenmore has been a slut. Is the title really befitting or has Lauren been a victim of circumstance?

In 1983 the woman was battling with Traci Abbott of all people for rock star Danny Romalotti's attention. Both women were singers with Romalotti's band and constantly haggled over who would get to sing with Romalotti. Because she was a fat pig, Abbott went on a diet and began working out but when she didn't lose weight fast enough began buying speed from a local college campus drug dealer named Sparky.

While Abbott deal with her subsequent addition, Lauren trapped Romalotti into becoming engaged. But by the end of 1994, Abbott had become pregnant with Tim Sullivan's child. Feeling sorry for her, Romalotti married Abbott so that her baby would have a daddy. Romalotti really wanted Paul Williams' sister, Patty. Not one to be left out in the cold, Fenmore married Williams.

Fenmore had her hang-ups. She couldn't stand her own mother, JoAnna, who never had time play a role in her life. When her parents were divorcing, Lauren overheard an argument during which JoAnna stated she wished Lauren had never been born.

Meantime, her willingness to do anything to get to the top was causing a rift in her marriage. Paul wanted a baby but she didn't. The president of her fan club, Sean Garrett, forced Lauren to move out of the apartment she shared with Paul and move in with him. If she refused, Garrett promised his goon, Turk, would kill Paul.

Thinking Paul would be meeting her later at a church, Lauren was surprised when Sean showed up. Unbeknownst to Lauren, Paul and Mary Williams were sitting in the back watching. Paul thought Lauren had kicked him to the curb.

A strange aside: Lauren's father, Neil, fell for Gina Roma and they got engaged. This development enraged Lauren and her mother who had returned to town and had grown to know one another on better terms. JoAnna it seems had decided she wanted Neil back.

It came to pass that Lauren depended on a miss Cleo type named Tamra for direction. Tamra informed Lauren that Roma was a jail bird. Lauren hired a PI and discovered Roma's criminal record. Lauren put a plan in motion resulting in her father kicking Roma to the curb.

Roma found out what Lauren did, told Paul and he walked out on Lauren.

By 1986 Lauren had become deathly afraid of Sean. He later kidnapped and buried her in a grave next to his mother. Lauren was eventually rescued by Paul resulting in the reunion of Lauren and Paul. Lauren blew it again when she entered Paul's naked photo in a tabloid centerfold contest. Paul won but was forced out of the Mayor's Commission on Pornography.

Side note: Romalotti fell for a young blond model named Cricket Blair.

Near the end of 1987, Lauren and Paul reconciled again but didn't go through with the wedding so Lauren began dating the Abbott pool boy, Brad Carlton. When her father died, Lauren took control of Fenmore's Department Store. Carlton wound up marrying Traci Abbott and in 1988 Jack Abbott discovered that Brad had married Lisa Mansfield when she was only 16.

The Carlton marriage began falling apart and Brad turned to Lauren again. Traci convinced Brad a baby might help their marriage. Brad agreed because he felt Tim Sullivan, Traci's professor, might be a threat. When Traci became pregnant, Lisa reappeared, Brad told her to buzz off but she managed to hold him captive in a cage in Aspen! As 1989 came to and end Lauren and Jack rescued Brad but Lisa got away.

Lauren went on to hookup with Scott Grainger and dumped him at the end of 1990 when she began getting hot for Paul again. Nurse Sheila Carter entered the picture and trapped Scott into thinking he had gotten her pregnant. Lauren meantime had decided she wanted Scott back. Besides, she was pregnant with his baby. But Scott blew the big surprise when he told Lauren that Sheila was pregnant with his baby too! At the end of the year, Lauren filed for divorce when her baby, Dylan, died.

In 1993 it was learned that Dylan was not Scott's biological son. Baby Scotty, the child Sheila said was hers, was actually Lauren's. Sheila had switched babies at birth. Before his death, Scott and Lauren remarried but only for the sake of her son. Lauren spent most of her time with Brad. At the end of the year, Scott died and Brad said he would fill the void in Lauren and Scotty's life.

During some hot sex with Lauren in 1994, Brad had a heart attack. In 1995, Lauren set her sights on Paul again who had fallen for Cricket. Paul had become impotent but Lauren managed to get a rise out of him one night in bed.

As time passed, Lauren took her baby and moved to Los Angeles.

In 2001, Lauren returned to Genoa City sans her unexplained whereabouts son on an extended visit and wasted no time hitting on Jack Abbott for sex and when he turned her down, Lauren hit on Paul and was again turned down. The woman has no scruples.

Dr. Gruesome Dies
December 1993 found Dr. Scott 'Gruesome' Grainger's diagnosis dark and his health condition was sinking fast. He was dying from Genoa City's mystery disease and his marriage to Lauren Fenmore was on the rocks. Sensing his time was near, Fenmore agreed to take a trip with Gruesome and their son to Catalina Island for some R&R. Gruesome's main focus wasn't on getting well. He knew that once the disease had taken hold there was no hope. With life nearing an end, Gruesome wanted only to "frolic with the buffalo" and to gobble down "some of the best buffalo buggers this side of the Mississippi."

On his death bed, Gruesome began spitting up blood. Although his wife was at his bedside, she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Fenmore was more intent on assuring Gruesome that she would never tell anyone that Sheila Carter was alive and well. A former nurse, Carter was wanted for kidnapping, murder and bigamy.

Learning her brother was near death, Christine 'Bug' Blair dropped by the Center 4 Disease for a visit. "What are you doing here?" Gruesome asked. The Bug threw the question back at him. "More importantly, what are you doing here?"

When Gruesome died, Fenmore told her son, Scotty Jr., that his daddy had "gone to sleep and will never wake again." When the Bug found out, she tried to force a tear for her dearly departed brother but failed miserably. Detective Paul 'Clueless' Williams was left to make funeral arrangements. Fenmore eventually left Genoa City for Los Angeles with her son and shortly thereafter, Scotty junior was never seen again.
