Remember When - 1986

Speed link to Lauren Fenmore   Nina Webster

Overview

Nina Webster was a pregnant teenager living at Rose DeVille's boarding house which was really the front for a baby-selling ring run by DeVille.

Webster told DeVille she'd be willing to give up her baby to a wealthy couple who wanted the baby as soon as it was born. At the last moment, Webster changed her mind but it was too late. DeVille told Webster the baby boy died at birth. But a budding bug named Cricket Blair had seen the couple leaving with a newborn baby and told Webster who, at the time, vowed never to stop looking for her baby. However, Webster was never able to get off her lazy ass long enough to make a major effort.

Lauren Fenmore, married to Paul Williams, was trying to understand Shawn Garrett. He had become psychotic and Fenmore was afraid he'd want to jump her bones. Fortunately, Garrett said he couldn't do it even if he wanted to. Prior to meeting Fenmore, Garrett had only loved one woman. His mother!

Traci Abbott married the Abbott gardener and pool boy, Brad Carlton. Carlton would, seemingly overnight, move rapidly up the corporate ladder at Jabot Cosmetics.

Jill Abbott tried to squeeze a hefty divorce settlement out of John Abbott but didn't know the old man knew about the photographs Katherine Chancellor had. The old woman had ordered her slave to destroy the seductive photos of Jack and Jill Abbott together but Ether Valentine had never got around to it. Instead, Valentine put together an anonymous letter to Chancellor using words clipped out of a newspaper indicating she had the photos and would return them for 100-thousand dollars. As expected, dippy Valentine couldn't pull it off and gave Chancellor the photos for free.

John Abbott ended up with the pictures but never looked at them until Jill admitted she had slept with his son. Still not convinced, John walked by his son's bedroom one morning, saw Jack naked and matched his body to the one in the photos.

Jack Abbott was later arrested for the shooting of Jill Abbott! He was sentenced to five years probation with one year spent working in a soup kitchen. The real shooter turned out to be Jill's masseur, Sven who almost got caught but escaped to Mexico after locking Jill in a meat locker!

Victor Newman was still infatuated with Ashley Abbott and so Nikki Newman set her sights on Jack Abbott. Ashley got pregnant but couldn't tell Victor because she found out Nikki was dying. Victor's brother, Matt, offered to marry Ashley is she would only keep her baby. It was the first and last abortion in Genoa City.

In other events this year:

Andy Richard's divorced Diane Jenkins and fell for Faren Connor.

At Jabot Cosmetics, Brad Carlton was in - Jack Abbott was out.

Jill Abbott got what she wanted. Twenty-percent Jabot shareholder as part of her divorce settlement.

Cricket Blair and rock star Danny Romalotti were becoming more than good friends and Lauren Fenmore convinced her husband to pose naked for a tabloid centerfold contest.

The Photos
The photos go back to 1983 when photographer Lindsey Wells took pictures of Mrs. Abbott with stepson Jack while they were stranded inside a bungalow during a blizzard. Wells later offered to sell the negatives to Mrs. Abbott for 150-thousand dollars. When Jack found out, he tricked Wells into marrying him, got the negatives and told Wells the marriage was a hoax. Jack didn't know that Wells had a duplicate set of negatives she sold to Katherine who wanted to get even with Jill for destroying her marriage to Phillip Chancellor.

In 1985 Katherine ordered Valentine to have some of the photos cut into a ten piece puzzle. She began sending one piece of the puzzle each day to John Abbott. The final piece revealing Jack and Jill's face was altered before it reached its destination. Katherine made a deal with Dina Mergeron, John Abbott's former wife, to remove Jack's face from all the negatives. When John saw the final piece he tossed it with realizing it was Jill in the photo.

When Katherine found out she showed John all the photos of Jill in compromising positions. John was so upset he had a stroke! After recovering, John demanded to know who the man in the photos was. Jill refused to say so John gave her 30-days to get out of the house and planned to file for divorce.

By 1986 Jill had become so desperate to save her marriage she told John that Jack was the man in the photos. John refused to believe her but as he walked by Jack's bedroom he saw Jack naked. As John gazed at Jack's nude body it all became clear. Jack was the man.

-------------

Nina Webster was a pregnant teenager living at Rose DeVille's boarding house which was really the front for a baby-selling ring run by DeVille. Nina told Rose she'd be willing to give up her baby to a wealthy couple who wanted the baby as soon as it was born. At the last moment, Nina changed her mind but it was too late. Rose told Nina the baby boy died at birth.

But Cricket Blair had seen the couple leaving with a newborn baby and told Nina who, at the time, vowed never to stop looking for her baby.

By the end of 1987, Nina had managed to get a promise from Rose. In exchange for $20-thousand dollars, Rose would return her baby. Nina planned to get the money from Phillip Chancellor III who planned to borrow the money from his grandmother, Katherine Chancellor. Unfortunately, the plan turned out to be a scam.

Phillip and Cricket were in love. Phillip proposed to Cricket and at the end of summer, Danny Romalotti proposed to Cricket too. Cricket was confused. She didn't know who to marry until Nina told her that she had a one-night stand with Phillip! Cricket was going to kick Phillip to the curb but changed her mind.

Katherine and Jill began planning the wedding but were shocked when Nina told them she was pregnant with Phillip's baby!

In 1988, Nina's son was delivered by cesarean section. A paternity test showed that indeed Phillip was the father but Jill and Katherine wanted Nina out of Phillip's life. They offered Nina $1-million dollars to leave Genoa City but Nina turned them down. Meantime, Cricket had called off the wedding.

Not one to give up, Jill set Nina up with a young man named Chase Benson who was willing to do whatever it took to please Jill so that he could climb the corporate ladder at Jabot. Chase took Nina to Los Angeles as Jill and Katherine tried building an abandonment case. Nina was falling for Chase but caught onto Jill and Katherine's plan.

Living at the Chancellor mausoleum at the time, Nina moved out and kept her whereabouts a secret. Phillip still wanted Cricket but Cricket, Rex Sterling and Danny wanted Nina to be with Phillip so they tried making Nina more respectable.

Meantime, Chase has become interested in Cricket too who by the end of the year, was being chased after by Phillip and Scott Grainger. Grainger turned out to be Cricket's brother.

Nina worked on getting her act together hoping to snare Phillip. In 1989, Cricket agreed to go on a date with Phillip but sent Nina in her place. The two actually enjoyed themselves. Later, Cricket told Phillip he should spend more time with Nina and his son. As time went on, Phillip asked Nina to marry him.

Chase tried to seduce Nina just as the wedding was about to start but Nina stopped him because on the way to the church, she and Chase had gotten into a car wreck.

Jill was not a happy camper. She and Katherine vowed to keep Nina away from Phillip's money. Fortunately for the two women, Nina's life with Phillip came to an end when Phillip was killed in a car wreck. An alcoholic, Phillip had drunk too much before getting behind the wheel.

1989 - Nina convinced Katherine Sterling's maid, Esther Valentine, to leave Katherine's employment so she could care for Nina's baby, Phillip Chancellor IV. In exchange, Nina promised to help Esther meet new people - especially men. As a bonus, Nina promised Esther she wouldn't have to wear that gaudy maid's uniform.

With someone to watch her kid, Nina began dating David Kimble who wasted no time proposing marriage. Cricket and Danny warned Nina that David just wanted to get Nina's money since she had inherited big bucks after Phillip Chancellor III's death. Nina wasn't sure about David because there was something about him. Something she couldn't put her finger on.

Jill didn't like the idea of Nina with David either until she realized that if David got closer to Nina she would have an easier time gaining access to her grandson. After the death of Jill's son, Nina had told Jill to stay away.

In 1990, Esther met a plumber named Tiny. During a one-might stand, Tiny and Esther slept together and Esther became pregnant.

Nina accepted David's proposal over Cricket's objections. David got Cricket alone one day and told her to buzz off - or else. Cricket ran to tell Jill she was scared what David might do. Jill told David to break it off with Nina but he refused.

David signed a prenuptial agreement but after the marriage, Nina ripped it up and signed a new will naming David as heir to the Chancellor fortune. Nina also gave David money so that he could start a new business. What Nina didn't know was that the "business" was bogus.

As David's plan moved along he became involved with a mailroom worker named Diane. Diane thought David was the spitting image of Tom Harper, a man she had read about in the newspapers. Harper had been accused of murdering his wife.

Oddly, Tom's wife Rebecca, was wearing a brooch in the newspaper photos which looked just like the one David had given to Nina.

Rebecca's friend, Vivian, wanted to prove David was the killer but she turned up dead. David knew he had to get his hands on the brooch and did just that telling Nina it must have been stolen.

By this time, Danny and Cricket were snooping around which drove David up the walls. To get Danny out of the way, David planted drugs in Danny's dressing room one night and then called the cops. Danny was arrested and his plans to marry Cricket were put on hold.

The charges were later dropped because the cops had searched without a warrant. Danny and Cricket were married in Hawaii. Nina was the maid of honor.

Diane, who had become David's lover, showed up in Hawaii too which posed a problem for David so he told Diane to go after Chase. Meantime, the cops had found the brooch which David had tossed into a lake. It was only because the lake had been drained because of a pollution problem that the cops actually partial solved a case.

Jill and Katherine freaked when they found out David wanted to adopt little Phillip. Nina told them if they didn't stop meddling she would leave town.

In 1991, Nina found out that David had been spying on her. She purchased a gun and checked out David's office which she found empty! While Nina was snooping around, David showed up with Diane. Hiding in the closet, Nina couldn't believe what she was hearing. David planned to kill her and skip town with her money and Diane. David also told how he had set Danny up.

Nina went home and waited. When David arrived she fired five bullets into him. Unfortunately, David survived and pretended to be paralyzed. Nina was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Nina jumped bail and showed up at her mother's apartment. Flo Webster was still a whore and a drunk at the time.

Nina wanted to head for Mexico but Cricket talked her out of it. Nina returned to Genoa City and stood trial. Amazingly, Nina was found not guilty!

From his hospital bed, David continued to plot how he would get even with Nina and Cricket. He took a body from the morgue, planted it in his bed and set the room on fire. The police, dumb as always, concluded David was dead.

David and Diane went to a plastic surgeon who fixed David's face. What David didn't know until he came out from under the anesthesia was that the surgeon had cut the word KILLER on his forehead. Things weren't looking good for David at this point.

David tried to make lemonade out of his lemon. He changes his name to Jim Adams and started hitting on Nina's mother. Flo Webster has arrived in Genoa City to hit Nina up for some cash. When Flo fell head over heals for him, David dumped Diane and married Flo.

David's life came to an end soon after Genoa City's great masquerade ball. Dressed like a wolf to match a costume Danny Romalotti was wearing, David pumped a few bullets into Danny, Cricket and Nina. Unfortunately for David, Paul Williams was on the case and had switched the bullets in David's gun with blanks. During his escape, David jumped into a trash chute, slid down into a trash compactor and was crushed to death.

Lauren Fenmore

By 1986, Lauren didn't know what to make of Shawn Garrett anymore. Shawn had become psychotic and Lauren was afraid he'd want to jump her bones. Fortunately, Shawn said he couldn't do it even if he wanted to. Lauren inquired into his past but Shawn would only say that until he met Lauren, the only woman he had ever loved was his mother!

Lauren told her psychic, Tamra, who had lost her ability to speak after a mysterious hit and run accident, she could stand Shawn and wanted to get back with Paul. When Shawn found out he flipped and cancelled a worldwide singing tour Lauren was scheduled to attend.

Shawn and Lauren went to San Francisco where Shawn's mother had lived before dying in a 1972 fire. Lauren was able to look up Mark Wilcox who had married Shawn's mother. Mark said he thought Shawn might have started the fire but couldn't prove it. Mark also warned Lauren to get away from Shawn as soon as possible.

As it happened, Paul, Andy Richards (once married to Diane Jenkins) and Jazz were in San Francisco at the same time trying to find Shawn. Shawn ordered his hit man to take Lauren to an abandoned garage where she was tied up. Shawn soaked Lauren's clothing in gasoline and set it on fire. But, the hit man had a change of heart and rescued Lauren because he knew she was pregnant.

Later, Paul and his boys ran into Shawn and the hit man on a pier where they had been wounded in a shoot out with the cops. Near death, Shawn mumbled that Lauren had three hours to live.

Paul and the boys raced to the cemetery where Shawn's mother was buried and sure enough, Lauren was there too in a grave, buried alive! Thanks to Paul, Lauren survived but the baby died. She and Paul eventually reunited. However, by the end of 1986 Lauren entered Paul in a tabloid centerfold contest and he won for Outstanding Professional Male. The win forced Paul to resign from the Mayor's Commission on Pornography.

Note: in 1987 Lauren and Paul decided to remarry but they didn't do it. Paul's mother, Mary, tried fixing Paul up with a nice girl from the church named Dana. However, Dana turned out to be a space case.

Traci Abbott, married to Brad Carlton at the time, moved to California to attend graduate school which opened the door for Lauren to begin dating Brad Carlton. Carlton had once worked as a gardener for the rich Mansfield family and married their daughter, Lisa, when she was only 16. Lisa's father later had the marriage annulled but in time, crazy Lisa would get even with Brad by kidnapping him. Also that year, Lauren's father, Neil, died from a heart attack. Lauren took control of Fenmore Department Stores. See Also: 1991 Sheila Carter

MARIJO MASON - September 1996

MariJo.jpg (8621 bytes)Detective Paul 'Clueless' Williams was on the case and the local townsfolk were rolling on the floor laughing. It was so funny watching Clueless come up with a tinker-toy type device he used to track MariJo Mason. Mason had kidnapped and drugged the crusader Christine 'Bug' Blair when the critter began sniffing around following the attempted murder of the great Victor Newman.

Mason wanted Newman out of the way when he obtained a fax sent by Kimo "Jungle Boy" Volein which was meant for Jack (Kimo's father) Abbott. MariJo thought the fax contained information which would ruin a relationship she was trying to develop with Jack.

As it turned out, Victor had given the fax to the Bug for safe keeping but MariJo didn't find out until after she shot Victor in the back twice. At first, Jill Abbott was indicted for the shooting but later cleared. Jill threw a get out of jail party at the RoadKill Cafe which MariJo attended and overheard someone say that the Bug had the fax and had put it in a safety deposit box. MariJo needed the key which she learned was in the Bug's desk at Legal Aid.

MariJo found an old storage room in the basement at Jaw Bow (she coined the pronunciation), prepared a poisonous concoction, arranged a meeting with the Bug at her apartment and dumped the drug into the Bug's tea. When the Bug passed out MariJo opened the apartment door to see someone had conveniently left an industrial sized laundry basket outside!

Dressed all in black, MariJo stashed the Bug in the basket, tossed the heavy basket into the back of a van and took the critter to Jaw Bow where a janitor thought nothing strange about a woman pushing along a large laundry basket.

MariJo kept the Bug drugged for a few days. Occasionally, she would inject the Bug with a truth serum but could never get the creature to say where the safety deposit key was. While all this was going on, Detective Clueless had discovered his love Bug was missing.

Clueless was well, clueless. He didn't have a clue where the Bug could have gone but knew something wasn't right. After changing into his black leather jacket, Clueless sought Victor's help who quickly figured out that MariJo had something to do with the missing Bug. The two decided to set a trap for MariJo.

Victor summoned MariJo to his office. While Victor kept her busy, Clueless planted a tracking device in her purse and later, he and Victor followed MariJo around in Victor's car. The problem was, the rinky-dink receiver Clueless was using wouldn't work through buildings! It was too funny but when MariJo returned to Jaw Bow where she planned on killing the Bug, Clueless and Victor managed to follow her on foot and in the end, saved the Bug.

MariJo was arrested and committed to a mental hospital. Jack visited her in the hospital and finally ended their relationship for good.
