Dr. Nora Thompson

Inept medical varmint spewing gibberish!
by Brent Kellogg

There seems to be no doubt that Dr. Nora Thompson is out to dethrone Dr. Olivia Winters as Genoa City's most inept medical practitioner. Based on Thompson's actions of late, the doctor is in the running but will have a hard road to hoe. It will be difficult to topple Winters.

The squinty-eyed doctor Winters is responsible for so many deaths in this city there isn't enough space here to list them all. Patients have repeatedly complained that Winters doesn't listen, won't take or return phone calls, always seems distracted and rushed, keeps patients waiting, can't seem to remember important details of their cases, repeatedly interrupts, calls patients by the wrong name and often travels long distances to check on patients whose only symptoms are flu-like.

Complaints to have Winters charged with and convicted of dereliction for performing emergency room duties, when she is barely skilled in general practice, have fallen on deaf ears.

Nobody seems to know if Dr. Thompson has a specialty. Patients see her for a variety of reasons. For example, Mrs. Ashley Carlton is seeing Thompson for breast cancer even though Thompson said last week that Carlton "is a little young to have this [mammogram] done."

Prior to the discovery of a lump on Carlton's breast Thompson didn't believe much in mammograms. "A woman should do what she feels is best for her," she said.

This week Thompson's ineptness was further illuminated when she urged Carlton to have an immediate biopsy. Upon learning she has a lump, a normal woman would want time to think about the implications. As a matter of routine, doctors make arrangements a few days down the road allowing the patient to digest the shocking news.

But not Dr. Thompson.

Citing her "star patient" role, Thompson reminded Carlton that because she sits as the chairperson on a local breast cancer awareness committee, any and all medical information will be made public. "It will be quite a story," Thompson said. Without giving Carlton a choice to opt out, Thompson bumped Carlton up on the list of those waiting for biopsies and when asked what the odds are that Carlton has cancer said, "In the majority of these cases. Nothing is wrong."

Again Dr. Thompson has displayed her total ignorance.

Experts agree that mammography detects tumors when they are smaller, that they detect more tumors and that mammography, because of early detection, gives women more options for treatment. The odds are 100-1 Carlton has cancer.

Proudly, but irresponsibly and unwisely, soldiering on, denying the significance of the warning signs, Dr. Thompson is sending a message to breast cancer patients not to worry if a mammogram finds a lump or two in their breasts. As the whole world watches, the message is that power and position are more important than life itself.

Dr. Nora Thompson butchers breast cancer campaign!

After all the chatter this week, suggesting that members of the media be present when new breast cancer awareness committee chairwoman Ashley Carlton subjected herself to a mammogram, the test was done privately. On such short notice anything else would have been unbelievable.

But, unless committee member Dr. Nora Thompson is in the running to usurp Dr. Olivia Winter's classification as top butcher within the medical community, there are some glaring blunders which need to be addressed.

1 in 200 women between the age of 30 and 40 are at risk for developing breast cancer. There is general agreement among medical professionals that women who give birth later in life, as Carlton has, are at increased risk.

Regardless of this fact, that any credible doctor including Dr. Winters would know, Dr. Thompson stated on Wednesday that Mrs. Carlton "is a little young to have this [mammogram] done."

Carlton may be using Botox or samples of Jabot Cosmetics unapproved anti-aging cream but she's 40 if she's a day.

Additionally, Thompson has said that "a woman should do what she feels is best for her" with regard to deciding whether or not to have a yearly mammogram. The implication, that a woman should roll the dice, was nothing less than malpractice.

Furthermore, while common persons must wait up to a week to get the results of a mammogram test, Thompson arranged to have Carlton's result processed in about an hour.

The recent Diabetes scare in Genoa City was bungled bad enough by Dr. Winters and others, including two nit-wit teenagers who had to look up Diabetes on the Internet and then give the information to Winters so that she could make a diagnosis, without having such an important health concern like breast cancer mangled by Thompson.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 190,000 women were diagnosed with the disease in 2001 and more than 40,000 died as a result of it.

For her stupidity, Thompson should be booted off the breast cancer awareness committee because she is making a mockery of the entire process.
