Thank God that whole chipmunk thing is finally over.
It was just baffling from start to finish. Kind of
like the writers got high and watched Donnie Darko
too many times. And the way Kevin just sort of woke
up in the rubber room surrounded by his friends and
family, I half expected him to say "But it wasn't a
dream, it was a place. And you and you and you . . .
and YOU were there!" I get that this storyline was
meant to fill up Greg Rikart's Emmy reel this year,
so I hope the judges can appreciate the fact that he
was able to dialog with a guy wearing a giant
chipmunk head without ever once cracking up. That
alone makes him deserve the award.
Looks like Ashley is headed straight for crazy town
to take Kevin's place. Wonder if she'll wind up in
the same rubber room. They don't put straight
jackets on Abbotts, do they? They should make an
exception for Ashley. She's already playing with
less than a full deck if she thinks she's not some
mindless puppet that can be manipulated by Victor.
Seems to me she's been pretty easily manipulated
already with nothing more than a tape recording of a
crying baby and an ugly stone statue that, for the
life of me, I can't figure out how anyone would
recognize as being a likeness of Sabrina. Least of
all Ashley and Abby, neither of whom ever even met
Sabrina and whose only knowledge of what she looks
like is based on a line drawing done by Daniel. I
watched every damn episode with Sabrina in it and I
couldn't have told you who that statue was supposed
to be of for a million bucks.
I get that Ashley is mad at Gloria but blaming
Gloria for the downfall of her "career" and the
ruination of Jabot? I think that's going a bit too
far, don't you? What's Ashley's excuse for all the
other times her career was in tatters and Jabot was
on the verge of bankruptcy? History has shown that
to be more or less the status quo since long before
Gloria ever hit the sunny shores of Genoa City a
mere three or four years ago. And hypocrisy doesn't
even begin to describe Ashley's attitude as she
smugly lectured Gloria about how she ruined Jabot
while she lives with and sleeps with the very man
who has made it his life's work to do the very same
thing. When the hell did Victor ever pay for ruining
Jabot? Oh that's right, he got a little slap on the
wrist and had to build a rec center for
underprivileged kids, a place that was quickly
forgotten about. Do you suppose if Gloria builds a
nice playground for orphans everyone will bow down
and call her a hero too?
God, the irony that Estella could tell Victor the
"former Mrs. Newman" had been by that day without
Victor having to ask "Which one?" Yeah, I get that
it's probably not Hope, although the way ghosts
stick around in this town it's not out of the
question, and it's not likely to be Julia either.
But couldn't it have been Diane? Or Leanna? You
can't throw around phrases like "Your former spouse"
in this town and expect somebody to know who you're
talking about.
Looks like Neil's world is crashing down around him,
especially the way everyone keeps rubbing it in that
he's all alone now. First Lily tells him she's
engaged then he walks in on JT and Victoria making
out in the board room. This could turn out to be an
effective running gag called "Let's drive Neil
insane." Say, for example, he pulls into a parking
lot and runs into Noah and Eden making out in their
car, then goes into the club and sees Nick and
Sharon kissing, then goes up to the bar and sees
Gloria and Jeffrey pawing each other, then gets a
table next to Katherine and Murphy making googly
eyes at each other. He'll be drinking again before
you know it.
Neil quit Newman because he's always going to be
second banana, so why did he go straight Katherine
to be number 2 for someone else? He's no more a
Chancellor than he is a Newman. Does he think
Katherine's going to leave him the company in her
will? Surely he recognizes that eventually Katherine
and Jill will reconcile, and there's always Brock
and Mackenzie. Seems to me he's lower down on the
food chain at Chancellor Industries than he was at
Newman.
